About the position
Based in Rome and under the supervision of the Senior Officer Global Engagement and Executive Communications the Assistant I will support the Alliance s participation in global policy processes and highlevel events (such as the Conventions of Parties of UNFCCC UNCCD and UNCBD). The Assistant I will support the conceptualization planning coordination and delivery of events supporting the scientific community in raising the visibility of the Organization on the global stage. In addition the incumbent will support other advocacyrelated engagements to support the community in leveraging our science and influence policy and decisionmaking processes.
Responsibilities
- Support the prospecting of opportunities to position the Alliance in major events and policy processes.
- Assist in maintaining an uptodate calendar of major events and related plans in coordination with the Global Engagement and Events Analyst.
- Support the dissemination of information on events to the alliance community.
- Support the Alliance in planning organizing implementing and participating in largescale events and/or processes of global reach.
- Assist in extracting lessons learned from events to enhance future coordination.
- Prepare presentations speeches blogs oped articles and other communication materials for events.
- Support the creation and update of a list of key facts and related sources useful for speech writing.
- Manage email lists and communications to staff and in some instances to partners and funders.
- Undertake desk research and prepare background materials and briefing notes for bilateral meetings on key stakeholders including information on fundraising priorities and advocacy issues related to key international decisionmaking processes of interest to the Alliance.
- Support the drafting of the Alliance s engagement strategies in key global policy processes and events.
- Assist in other tasks and initiatives as assigned by the Senior Officer Global Engagement and Executive Communications.
Requirements
Requirements
- Secondary school education supplemented by office training or related courses.
- Previous professional experience (preferably a minimum of 2 years) in external engagement events management and/or communication in an international organization NGO or equivalent.
- Understanding of issues related to the food systems environment nutrition and agriculture is preferred.
- Excellent writing skills and good knowledge of digital platforms for social media publishing.
- Strong computer skills including MS Office and Adobe Creative suite.
- Strong interpersonal communications and teamwork skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of different cultural and national backgrounds.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required and fluency in Italian Spanish French and other UN languages is an asset.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others to demonstrate flexibility in fulfilling assignments and to be proactive in planning researching and pitching communications opportunities.
- Ability to convey complex and technical content in engaging succinct and clear multimedia formats for digital platforms.

Terms of employment
This is a nationally recruited position based in Rome (Italy) open only to internal candidates namely: regular staff members complementary staff members and individuals who are currently employed or have completed a contract with Bioversity in the last 6 months. The position BG4 level on a scale of 14 levels with level 14 being the highest and the salary range starts from Euro 35790. The remuneration package includes a competitive salary leave provisions medical and life insurance and noncontributory retirement plan. The contract will be for a period of 1 year subject to a probationary period of 6 months and is renewable subject to performance project needs and availability of funds.
