Job Description

The NYC Board of Standards and Appeals is a critical component of the Citys comprehensive system for regulation of land use development and construction. The Board is an independent administrative review body with the power to grant relief to landowners whose property is deemed unduly restricted by the Citys zoning resolution and building code. Such authority allows the Board to make important decisions that affect development throughout all five boroughs.

The Boards mandate includes providing expert review of zoning variance and special permit applications; appeals to determinations made by the Department of Buildings and Fire Department based on legal doctrine; revocations or modifications of certificates of occupancy; and waivers from other laws including the Multiple Dwelling Law and the General City Law.
Under the supervision of and reporting to the Executive Director of the BSA along with latitude and for independent initiative and judgement the specific duties of Administrative Manager will include but not be limited to:

Responsibilities:

Maintain the Chair/Commissioners calendar and schedule meetings.
Maintain and update information in BSA databases as assigned.
Manage other office functions files and special projects as needed.
Generate and distribute correspondence as assigned by the Chair/Commissioner Executive Director and Counsel.
Provide administrative support to project managers.
Prepare and publish the annual bulletin as per NYC Charter.

Only individuals who are currently serving permanently in the title of Administrative Manager or reachable on the Administrative Manager Civil Service list may apply.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory fulltime progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience requiring independent decisionmaking concerning program management or planning allocation for resources and the scheduling and assignment of work 18 months of which must have been in an administrative managerial executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the supervision of staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and five years of satisfactory fulltime progressively responsible experience as described in 1 above 18 months of which must have been in an administrative managerial executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the supervision of staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty; or
3. A fouryear high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of
satisfactory fulltime progressively responsible experience as described in 1
above 18 months of which must have been in an administrative managerial
executive or supervisory capacity. The supervisory work must have been in the
supervision of staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than
moderate difficulty; or
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 2 or 3 above. However all
candidates must possess the 18 months of administrative managerial executive or supervisory experience as described in 1 2 or 3 above. Education above
the high school level may be substituted for the general clerical/administrative
experience (but not for the administrative managerial executive or supervisory
experience described in 1 2 or 3 above) at a rate of 30 semester credits
from an accredited college for 6 months of experience up to a maximum of 3
years.
