Job Description

The Safety Specialist is responsible for coordinating and implementing Occupational Safety and Health plans and programs of Pilmico Farms. He/she inspect workplaces for adherence to regulations on safety health and the environment. He/she also develops programs together with the management team to prevent harm or injury to workers and damage to the environment.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Identifies and evaluates hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace. Conducts onsite inspections to assess physical conditions and safe work practices. Implements immediate corrective actions appropriately.
  2. Collaborates with the Safety Lead in developing controls for identified hazards and unsafe conditions. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system policies and procedures and recommend changes if necessary.
  3. Reports analyzes interprets all incidents or accidents and loss. Review injury and property damage reports. Prepares comprehensive recommendations for corrective action of an incident. Develops and implements recurrence prevention programs and procedures.
  4. Maintains or help in the maintenance of an efficient accident record system and coordinates actions taken by supervisors to eliminate accident causes.
  5. Provides continuing education and oversight to all employees business partners and other third parties to ensure consistent implementation of plans and programs.
  6. Directs industrial hygiene occupational and general safety programs to ensure a safe environment and comply with safety standards.
  7. Facilitate compliance with occupational health and safety (OSH) guidelines. He/ She will provide advice on measures to minimize hazards or unhealthy situations. He/ She will also be on a constant lookout for violations.
  8. Responsible for the preparation of safety health and environmental regulatory permit requirements including applications for renewals and new permits.
  9. Consolidates data for the completion of safety health and environmental reports ensuring their timely submission.
  10. Support in the implements fire prevention and protection programs and coordinates with fire brigades to ensure maximum safety.
  11. Serves as one of the Secretary to the Safety Health and Environment  Committee; prepares minutes of the meetings; report status of recommendations made; notify members of the meetings; and submit to the management a report of the activities of the committee including recommendations made.
  12. Acts in an advisory capacity on all matters pertaining to safety health and environment for the guidance of the management and the workers.
  13. Over all in charge of ensuring that the necessary actions processes or standards are carried out to support the companys Driving Authorization Program.
  14. Conducts investigation of accidents and submit his separate report and analysis of accidents to the management.
  15. Conducts safety inspections on a regular basis and recommend/suggest corrective actions.
  16. Conducts risk assessment processes such as Hazard Identification Risk Assessment and Control (HIRAC) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
  17. Coordinates with different departments in communicating the safety performance compliance and policies
  18. Adhere and support the strict implementation of ASF protocols of the company.

Qualifications :

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Electrical Chemical Mechanical) preferably licensed or any related course

Experience:

  • Three (3) years directly related experience in Occupational Health & Safety (OSH) and Environmental matters

License/s: 

  • 40hours (BOSH) basic OSH training course.
  • Valid drivers license

Other Requirements:

  • Knowledge of investigative skills
  • Strong knowledge on Occupational Health & Safety (OSH)guidelines and requirements
  • Strong knowledge on auditing and implementing corrective action; follow through
  • Good public speaking and presentation skills
  • Good communication skills both in English and vernacular
  • Ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationship
  • Above average planning and organizing skills Good decisionmaking skills
  • Ability to handle motivate and influence people
