Other Conditions: Extramural funds. Appointment to begin May 2025 or soon thereafter. Renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance department needs and availability of funds.



Duties and Responsibilities

  • *Under the direction of the Principal Investigator serve as the projects Native Hawaiian Partner Liaison and Education Mentor;
  • *Work closely with the Native Hawaiian Student Services (NHSS) and Hawaiinuiakea for events where Project Hookui is a sponsor; including coordinating logistics implementation of project activities and engaging with students;
  • *Implement the Project Hookui program and curriculum on the Windward side of the island of Oahu at one high school. This includes setting up classes tracking students collecting data for reports and supporting students who wish to become interns;
  • *Coordinate logistics (airfare lodging meals and transportation) for project participants and their chaperones to attend events ensuring their safety and wellbeing;
  • *Responsible for distributing and collecting all necessary forms sign in sheets etc. as mandated by the UHM policy.
  • *Serve as point of contact for project participants who intend on enrolling at UHM in their freshman year; advise and field inquiries during their transition from high school to college.
  • *Serve as point of contact and mentor for Hookui UHM Scholar Awardees during their first semester at UHM.
  • *Track the grades and classes of Hookui UHM Scholar Awardees during their first year at UHM.
  • Work closely with the project site coordinators to determine if there are Manoa Academy students who wish to take a University of Hawaii Manoa college campus tour and intend on attending UHM for a fouryear degree.
  • Update the Project Hookui Scholarship application(s) as needed.
  • Travel with principal investigator as needed to neighbor island project schools.
  • Work evenings weekends and/or holidays as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education social sciences liberal arts fine arts or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for Native Hawaiian culture history and activities; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of Native Hawaiian culture history and activities as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws rules regulations and theories and systems associated with event coordination and management.
  4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective innovative and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  8. If applicable for supervisory work demonstrated ability to lead subordinates manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.
  9. Ability to work evenings weekends and/or holidays as needed.
  10. Ability to travel independently to various locations throughout the state of Hawaii in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawaii Drivers License (class 3) or other means of transportation which meets position needs.
  11. Proficient at Zoom Microsoft Suite Google Suite and Canva.


Desirable Qualifications

  1. Masters Degree in social sciences liberal arts education or fine arts and/or additional credit hours beyond a Bachelors Degree.
  2. Able to conversationally understand/speak in Hawaiian language.
  3. 5 years or more of experience in management and/or leadership positions that are jobrelated.
