Alaska Psychiatric Institute is recruiting for a fulltime Accounting Technician 1
What You Will Be Doing:
Under the direction of Alaska Psychiatric Institutes (API) Accountant 3 (PCN 060669) the Accounting Technician 1 performs technical and specialized examination of medical accounting and performs billing for institutional and professional claims using the EHR (Electronic Health Record) specialized custom psychiatric hospital software (MT Meditech) through the B/AR (Billing/Accounts Receivable) module and billing through a 3rd party vendor clearinghouse (SSI) for electronic and paper submission of patient claims. API is an inpatient psychiatric hospital licensed and accredited as an 80bed psychiatric hospital in the State of Alaska which has forensic adult and adolescent units to support the mentally ill population from a diverse demographic.
The position will review audit and submit medical claims following standards and guidelines set by the supervisor. In addition this position will review denied medical claims for appeal or writeoff and navigate payer portals and resources for clarification and appeal. Also this position will enter and reconcile payments for medical claims in our hospital information system.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
The Alaska Psychiatric Institute is located at 3700 Piper Street near Providence Hospital and UAA. This position is colocated with its supervisor the accountant 3 on the administrative (nonpatient care) side of API.
Who We Are Looking For:
In addition to the Minimum Qualifications below we are looking for a candidate with the following competencies:
Some knowledge of techniques and methods used in reconciliation of accounts and auditing.
Skill in the use of a computerized accounting system.
Ability to identify discrepancies or inaccuracies in data and make corrections.
Ability to search for select and compile/summarize data and information.
Ability to communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing.

One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations.
Substitutions:
Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.
Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).
