Position Overview
Reporting to Exhibition Production Manager (EPM) the Lead Preparator (LP) is a key member of the Exhibitions team who provides assistance in all aspects of installation and deinstallation processes on a temporary basis dependent on current installation period and needs.The LP works in close collaboration with and monitors the work of a small team of Preparators to safely and efficiently install artwork AV and other installation elements.The LP provides support to the EPM before and after installation periods by reviewing installation plans and organizing material and tool storage.Successful candidates will be flexible and adaptable team players with indepth knowledge of exhibition production techniques and strong problemsolving skills across a range of applications. Essential Functions
Assist on all aspects of installation and deinstallation of exhibitions
Assist in overseeing the temporary installation and production personnel and monitor their work closely during installation and deinstallation
Assist in registrarial tasks (e.g. maintaining organization and an inventory of artworks shipping packing/unpacking of artworks; facilitating art storage on and offsite)
Identify and install a range audio/visual equipment and exhibition elements
Operate heavy equipment such as scissor lifts and other equipment used to reach or move large artworks
Manage organize and maintain exhibition supplies and storage
Other related duties as assigned by the Exhibition Production Manager

Qualifications
Knowledge of the principles techniques and equipment used in the design fabrication and installation of temporary and permanent exhibitions
Knowledge of museumapproved materials (acidfree nonoff gassing archival etc.)
Adept technical skills in the operation of hand and power tools and handling forklifts lifts and other forms of moving equipmentSkilled in use of hand tools and equipment associated with electrical
Basic carpentry general fabrication and minor construction skills
Working knowledge of best installation and deinstallation processes and procedures
Knowledge of contemporary art practice media and materials
Ability to carry out physical maneuvers associated with maintenance repair replacement and general upkeep of equipment and properties
Ability to lift carry push and pull up to 50 lbs with assistance
Ability to lead and oversee a small team of Preparators
Good knowledge of contemporary art
Ability to follow EPMs protocols design instructions specifications and blueprints
Familiarity with best practices in workplace safety (E.g. OSHA requirements)
Requirements
Educational background in studio/fine art construction or a related field and/or its work experience equivalent
2 years experience in a gallery/museum setting or experience in exhibition design installation arthandling fabrication construction or a related field
Availability and commitment to a 45day work week during temporary installation period. The upcoming period would tentatively be June 30 2025 to August 29 2025
