Science Service Sustainability
Job Purpose:
The Compliance Specialist performs duties in specialized environmental management to detect evaluate and control environmental quality through the review of compliance monitoring reports and compliance certifications.

Job Duties:
  • Tracks reviews and evaluates standard and complex compliance monitoring reports from air pollution sources to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations and permit conditions.
  • Review Title V annual compliance certifications.
  • Coordinate and communicate with appropriate staff including permitting enforcement regional etc. during the process of report review and TVACC review. Ensure that the expertise of other staff is utilized as needed to aid in compliance determinations.
  • In a timely manner install air permit reporting requirements into ePermitting schedules so that reports can be submitted monitored and tracked effectively.
  • Work with traditional sources to assure necessary data in the appropriate format is received and refer noncompliance situations to the Enforcement Section for further action.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A high school diploma and five years of environmental health or related experience.
  • An associate degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field and three years of environmental health or related experience.
  • A bachelors degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field
Note: Degrees in a related technical field include but are not limited to Earth sciences chemistry biology physics soil science environmental science mathematics etc.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Additional Requirements:
  • Knowledge of Federal and State environmental laws rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the enforcement permitting compliance monitoring and emissions inventory procedures.
  • Knowledge of methods of compliance monitoring database entry and management procedures and enforcement referral procedures.
  • Ability to differentiate between deviations that can be resolved through compliance assistance or through enforcement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management the public and government officials.
  • Ability to prepare clear concise and comprehensive reports.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A masters degree in the natural or physical sciences or related technical field.
  • One or more years of environmental health or related experience.
