JOB SUMMARY

Student Life Mentors are essential to the successful operation and maintenance of the Office of Student Life and the Department of Student Life in general. They provide information resources networking opportunities and extracurricular activities to students in support of the Collegewide goals of retention and completion and studentcentric goals of personal and professional growth.


This is a parttime position of no more than 20 hours per week.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform the job successfully an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or abilities required to perform the job description satisfactorily. Specific Duties

  • Maintain a calendar of multicultural campus events.
  • Create and update a diversity board once a month.
  • Research and develop a program communicating cultural competency that appeals to both traditional and nontraditional students
  • Maintain and update student discounts offered throughout the community.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Greet guests when they approach and enter the office
  • Answer and make phone calls check voicemail
  • Work with the First Year Experience Coordinator and Student Life Coordinator to plan weekly tasks
  • Participate in ongoing training about resources available to students on campus and in the community
  • As appropriate refer students to other resources on campus
  • Stay up to date on the Student Life event schedule
  • Assist with Student Life ASKCC and KCC campus events as appropriate
  • Promote events community service and volunteer opportunities
  • Maintain an inventory of office and event supplies
  • Basic clerical work mostly on the computer
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the office
  • Maintain the game check out system
  • Attend regular Student Life team meetings & team building activities
  • Attend oneonone meetings to assess progress
  • Assist with Food Pantry package pickup on designated days

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE

Wellqualified candidates must demonstrate some or all of the requirements listed below which are representative of the knowledge skill and ability required to perform the position satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with documented disabilities in accordance with state and federal law.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be enrolled and successfully complete six (6) credits during fall winter and spring terms
  • Maintain a minimum term and cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher
  • Good standing with the Office of Student Conduct
  • Basic data entry skills
  • Must be enthusiastic organized and possess a positive cando attitude
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting
  • Willingness to work on a flexible schedule as required (includes evenings and weekends)


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completed at least one term of 6 credits at Klamath Community College
  • Experience with orientation programs
  • Proficiency in Spanish (spoken & written)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word Excel and PowerPoint) and Google apps
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects and activities selfdirect make effective use of resources and meet established deadlines
  • Valid drivers license
  • Applicants must be registered for the next fall term to qualify for employment during summer term

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequently moving from stationary sitting positions to standing and walking
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
