Description:

Under minimal supervision Bus Operator Bs transport passengers by operating public transit vehicles on regularly scheduled links connecting with fixedroute and rail services and perform ondemand passenger pickups and dropoffs while observing all federal state and municipal traffic laws observing all safety rules and strictly adhering to time schedules.

This position is considered safetysensitive and subject to the provisions of the Substance Abuse Program Policy for Safety Sensitive Positions.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides courteous and professional customer service.
  • Performs vehicle inspections as required.
  • Respectfully provides accurate information to passengers related to the use of LYNX service.
  • Resolves passenger disputes in a courteous manner.
  • Operates wheelchair lift equipment and assists disabled passengers.
  • Announces bus stops in compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
  • Communicates with dispatch road supervision and emergency vehicles via radio equipment.
  • Adheres to LYNX work rules policies and procedures.
  • Observes all federal state and municipal traffic laws. Observes all safety rules.
  • Adheres to assigned routes and time schedules.
  • Ensures proper fares are collected. Issues slips for fare refunds and issues and collects transfers.
  • Verifies that appropriate passes are being used by customers.
  • Prepares related written reports and documents as required.
  • Assists customers during emergency accidents or incidents.
  • Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida drivers license and clean driving record.
  • Must successfully pass a DOT drug screen and DOT physical with a oneyear DOT card.
  • Must be able to work days nights Saturdays and any hours assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of Florida Traffic Laws.
  • Working knowledge and skills to use a computer and communication equipment.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to safely operate LYNX revenue and nonrevenue vehicles.
  • Ability to adhere to route schedules while operating in mixed traffic conditions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact courteously and effectively with the public.
  • Ability to comply with the attendance requirements of the job.
  • Ability to read and write legibly in English speak effectively and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to exhibit a professional courteous demeanor.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with those encountered in the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.

Work Environment and Special Considerations:

  • Current schedule includes working various shifts to include days nights and Saturdays.
  • Sundays and holidays may be a requirement in the future.
  • Must be able to physically sit for extended periods of time.
  • Employees in this position must comply with all requirements of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regarding the testing of safety sensitiveemployees. This position is considered safetysensitive under FTA drug and alcohol regulations (49 CFR Part 655).
  • LYNX provides the community with much needed public transportation and it is important for the Agency to resume its services as quickly and as safely as possible in the event of any natural technological or humancaused emergency or disaster. This position is considered a mission critical member of LYNXs emergency preparation and response efforts during an emergency or disaster and as such requires 24hour availability in the event of an emergency or disaster.
