The Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible for organizing and managing the patient care delivery and team members in Medical Oncology and the Ambulatory Infusion Center for the total number of hours that the department is operational. The clinical nurse manager is responsible for leading daily operations of a specific unit including the human physical environment supplies resources and services to ensure efficient quality patient experience and care in collaboration with the Director. Provides any special skills/knowledge base related to the patient mix of the unit/special functions of the unit. Supports Augusta Health mission and philosophy. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit or within his/her department including knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. 80% managerial / 20% clinical (may vary depending on span of control & number of unit managers). Responsible & available within respective area for the total number of hours that the unit is operational.
Education Certifications Competencies Knowledge Skills and Abilities :
- BSN required

- Current and valid Registered nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or from a state that is part of a Compact agreement with Virginia

Essential Job Duties:

- Provides/plan/maintains staffing patterns based on unit needs to provide continuity of care based on volumes balanced schedule to meet volume on unit/shift/weekend
- Recruits interviews and selects qualified staff for unit: utilize behavioral based interview techniques peer interviewing and ensure shadow experience for qualified and cultural fit replacement of vacancies timely set up interviews within 2 business days disposition in UKG throughout process
- Coordinates employee orientations counseling and team member development activities: provides timely and productive/honest feedback to encourage change in behavior team member development when observed or communication of education needs act promptly to provide to team members. Timely and frequent check in w/ new orientee bi weekly
- Completes fair annual evaluations on team members
- Adheres to the disciplinary process with supportive documentation: provide written documentation clear concise factual and accurate to reflect and support disciplinary actions after proper investigation with support of HR
- Demonstrates executive presence amongst peers and team members
- Promotes open communication team member rounding/accessibility & visibility on all shifts. This includes team member rounding routinely on all shifts
- Conducts monthly staff meetings

- Assists the Director to develop and maintain a fiscal plan (budget) for the department communicate identified needs (equipment/supplies) or initiatives for next year
- Demonstrates financial stewardship by continually identifying areas for improving cost containment and cost reduction (ex: contract labor reduction supply cost etc.)
- Reviews and adjusts staffing according to productivity measures Assist in managing resources with charge nurse
- Maintains team member profile in relation to labor budget position control
- Post open vacant positions timely and appropriately to maintain balanced position control
- Assists Director with capital purchases and planning for needs of the department
- Oversees payroll for department take note of incremental overtime lunch breaks change department (floating) etc.

- Ensures that safety risks to patients are minimized by always maintaining regulatory state of readiness.
- Maintains knowledge of regulatory requirements (Federal state local life safety codes DBHDS etc.)
- Manages unit equipment utilizes Biomed appropriately for repairs
- Performs unit safety/regulatory checks quarterly examples: Ligature Risk rounds EOC rounds routine chart audits etc.)
- Audits unit/staff quarterly for unannounced surveys
- Demonstrates ownership over quality for respective area by implementing improvement projects and ensuring best practice standards. In collaboration with Director develops and maintains an ongoing quality improvement program for department maintains Quality board for staff monthly staff meeting to review opportunities.
- In collaboration with staff develops and initiates practices/procedures supported by evidencebased research process improvement
- Manges occurrence reports through investigation review and documented in timely manner review and opportunity brought back to team members for feedback to influence change.
- Appoints staff representation to hospitalwide efforts
- Routinely round and collaborate with physicians and APPs within your respective areas
- Drive service recovery through timely follow up and collaboration with patient and families
- Drive throughput initiatives within your respective areas
- Drive patient satisfaction by monitoring department scores review comments investigate opportunities NLR (80 % leader/ 20% charge) and improvement initiatives in collaboration with Director of Patient Experience.

Clinical Management
- Completes daily assignments based on patient census/acuity staff availability and care needs in collaboration with charge assignments participate in team meetings care coordination
- Delegates tasks as appropriate
- Provides input and updates to practice guidelines and policies for department
- Open communication within department staff and other departments as needed
- Demonstrates advocacy role for patients and family
- Serves as the clinical resource person and assists team members as needed clinical expert
- Assess unit needs based on patient movement/turnover and makes appropriate changes based on patient needs staffing and room availability drives throughput and admissions
- Uses professional judgement and critical thinking in decision making process
- Intervenes and assist team members with provider conflict.
- Participates in IDR daily
- Takes assignment of charge and/or team as needed.
- Ensures staff huddles to enhance communication and patient care.
