Job Description

Marion County requires onsite work. Remote work is not available.


New employees typically start at step 1 of the pay scale ($19.98$26.72/hour).
Returning employees are eligible for hire above step 1 based on number of previous seasons worked with the maximum appointment at Step 3.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Responsible for various manual labor tasks within the Public Works Department including but not limited to work duties for roads bridges vegetation sign pavement markings traffic devices and control ferries fleet drainage conveyance nuisance control working with adultincustody work crews park maintenance environmental sites parks landfill and transfer site operations.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Work under the direct supervision of a supervisor crew leader or lead worker who assigns work and observes performance to ensure conformance to department standards. At discretion of direct supervisor may work independently for limited durations and/or on routine tasks.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification. May aid in the instruction of peer employees.

Typical Duties Duties include but are not limited to the following

  • Perform maintenance tasks at various county parks including but not limited to landscaping horticultural janitorial and forestry tasks; clean repair and maintain park amenities facilities grounds and trails; remove graffiti illegal dumping and garbage.

  • Assist with new construction and remodeling in such areas as carpentry painting plumbing concrete work excavation trail work wildlife habitat and natural areas enhancement.

  • Maintain tools and equipment in clean and good working order; maintain yard and shop in clean and organized condition.

  • Assist with set up and operations of special events; assist with volunteer work events. Utilize mobile devices to access work order system and collect data. May perform cash handling duties.

  • Operates a motor vehicle to travel to and from park locations throughout Marion County.

  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Requirements for the Position

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
  1. High school diploma or equivalent; AND
  2. Any combination of six months experience in controlling or directing traffic performing semiskilled road maintenance/construction work exterior work that includes heavy manual repetitive labor activities landscape forestry janitorial or other closely related areas or activities; OR
  3. Any satisfactory combination of work education training or experience relevant to the position as determined by Marion County.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of basic tools use dependent on position assignments: working safely in traffic; recycling programs; landscaping; general park maintenance; and proper cash handling.

Skill in effective oral communication; reading comprehension; basic computer operations; ability to receive and understand technical and safety training; and completing daily reports.

Ability to understand and follow directions; exercise good judgment; perform heavy manual repetitive labor activities for extended periods of time including during adverse weather conditions; stand or walk long distances; operate simple machines and radio equipment; wear proper Personal Protection Equipment (PPE); perform simple math functions; make change; and maintain good working relationships coworkers and the public.

PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS
Operates a motor vehicle and maintains an acceptable driving history; stands for long periods of time; sits for up to 1/2 hour; walks about the work area; walks long distances; climbs stairs; bends forward; reaches overhead; works in inclement weather conditions; performs heavy manual labor lifts and carries up to 50 lbs. up to 100 feet; pushes and pulls up to 50 lbs.; moves carts weighing up to 150 lbs.; loads/ unloads all types of heavy materials; operates various equipment; climbs ladders and scaffolds; works around heat cold humidity wet and uneven areas chemicals smoke and dust; works with engine vibrations; possible risk of exposure to blood/body fluids; possible risk of exposure to exhaust fumes. Operates a keyboard; speaks clearly and audibly; uses rapid mental/hand/eye coordination; reads a 12pt. font; distinguishes shades and colors; sees with depth perception; hears a normal speech level.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS
Marion County is a qualifying public employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program fulltime employees working at the County may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Questions about your loan eligibility should be directed to your loan servicer or the US Department of Education.

VISA SPONSORSHIP
Marion County does not offer VISA sponsorship. Within three days of hireyou will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Securitys I9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States.
