Job Description

Working within the Museums administrative team the 3542 Curator IIAssistant Curator of Public Engagement researches writes content for posts and manages responses to the Museums social media feeds; maintains a cohesive social media strategy; oversees and responds to the Museums publicfacing email account; enables and provides tours and postsecurity visits to art and exhibitions; and maintains records related to the Museums technology assets. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Museum Affairs. The position works with all levels of Museum and Airport staff coordinates with various departments within the Airport and has regular communication with outside individuals and organizations; has regular communication with the public at large; and provides technological support to all Museum staff and is responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of the Macintosh computers.

The essential functions of this position include:

  1. Develop and execute interesting informative and original written and visual content for social media channels related to Museum exhibitions collection activities and aviation history; create and maintain weekly and monthly content calendars.
  2. Conduct research on objects within the aviation collection key figures and dates within aviation history and information related to the history of San Francisco International Airport.
  3. Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues to discuss and review content ideas; participate in exhibition planning and development meetings.
  4. Manage postings on social media channels including but not limited to: Facebook Instagram and X.
  5. Monitor measure and continually update best practices by platform. Create and maintain written guides by platform; review and update annually. Identify new or existing platforms and/or means and methods of digital communication to effectively share and respond to internal and/or external Museum information.
  6. Monitor and respond to inquiries from the public received through social media and/or publicfacing email accounts; monitor and respond (if appropriate) to: social media posts by other museums organizations and people; key hashtags; influences; and Museum fans.
  7. Coordinate and assist in leading tours for visitors behind the scenes and through security checkpoints. Assist in the coordination of Mbadge use and visits.
  8. Track the Museums technology equipment (computers monitors laptops etc.). Perform annual inventory reviews. Serve as Museum liaison with IT (Information Technology). Assist staff with routine upgrades and software installations; report upgrade and/or replacement needs to supervisor. Produce maintain and update policies and procedures for common hardware/software issues. Review and update existing guides annually.
  9. Review and edit exhibition text brochures and blog posts.
  10. Provide technologyrelated how to trainings asneeded to Museum staff.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  1. Education: Possession of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in the fine arts art history decorative arts design history library science museum studies natural history science technology or other closely related disciplines. AND
  2. Experience: Three (3) years of museum experience.

One year fulltime employment is equivalent to 2000 hours (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40 hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine fulltime employment.

Desirable Qualifications
The stated desirable qualifications may be used to identify job finalists at the end of the selection process when candidates are referred to hiring.

  1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking and a background and/or knowledge of marketing public relations art history museumbased education and/or museum operations.
  2. Passion for knowledge of and experience with various social media platforms (X Instagram Facebook Pinterest etc.) social media analytics tools and Google Analytics.
  3. Ability to accurately and effectively represent SFO Museum as the broadcast voice of the organization over social media.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Adobe Creative Suite FilemakerPro and Macbased computer systems.
  5. Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently within team and the organization including excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public lenders donors vendors and Museum and Airport staff at all levels.
  6. Excellent organizational skills and a concern for detail and accuracy with ability to multitask and perform a variety of tasks independently.

Nature of Work
May require extensive walking standing computer work requiring keyboarding and prolonged sitting and working off a flat screen monitor to perform job duties; ability to work effectively with managers coworkers contractors and other personnel; and ability to identify issues and problem solve.

Selection Procedures
The selection process will include evaluation of applications in relation to minimum requirements.  Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to interview.  Depending on the number of applicants the Department may establish and implement additional screening mechanisms to comparatively evaluate the qualifications of candidates.  If this becomes necessary only those applicants whose qualifications most closely meet the needs of the Department will be invited for an interview.

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Clearance: Candidates for employment with the San Francisco Airport Commission are required to undergo a criminal history record check including FBI fingerprints and Security Threat Assessment in order to determine eligibility for security clearance and may be required to undergo drug/alcohol screening. Per Civil Service Commission Rule Section 110.9.1 every applicant for an examination must possess and maintain the qualifications required by law and by the examination announcement for the examination. Failure to obtain and maintain security clearance may be basis for termination from employment with the Airport Commission.
