Job Description
We are seeking a Robotics and Automation Academic Graduate Appointee to join our team. In this role you will engage in practical research on materials design and engineering topics with a focus on robotics and automation. As part of the Materials Engineering Division (MED) within the Engineering Directorate you will contribute to advancing strategies for national security and support LLNLs Institutional Initiative of Robotics and Automation. This position provides an excellent opportunity to further your educational and career goals while conducting impactful research.
This position requires fulltime onsite presence due to the nature of the work.
You will
- Conduct research at the intersection of applied science and robotics control and automation.
- Support LLNL by contributing to ongoing research activities including literature reviews computational materials science and experimental fabrication work.
- Participate in research planning and evaluation discussions with other members of the research staff.
- Present research findings to LLNL staff as appropriate.
- Prepare reports and/or publications as assigned.
- Perform all assignments in accordance with ES&H security and business practice requirements and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
- Bachelors degree in applied physics Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with programming languages including python.
- Experience with machine vision and OpenCV.
- Experience with sample preparation protocol generation for automated systems and utilization of automated systems.
- Experience with data injection and queries to produce plots from databases such as MongoDB or SQL.
- Experience with advanced manufacturing.
- Experience with mechanical design software such as SolidWorks or RISA2D.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and to prepare present and explain technical results.
- Demonstrated initiative interpersonal skills creativity and ability to work effectively in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with finite element analysis heattransfer systems design fluid mechanics.
- Experience with characterization tools such as highspeed optical cameras.
- Familiarity with electrochemistry.

Per the Department of Energy (DOE) Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory must meet certain restrictions with the use and/or possession of mobile devices in Limited Areas. Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities require separate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
