Chef Robotics is on a mission to accelerate the advent of intelligent machines in the physical world. As the rise of LLMs like ChatGPT has shown AI has the potential to drive immense change. However we believe AIs biggest impact will be in the physical world given industries like manufacturing food and transportation represent 90% of global GDP. Were starting with food with a goal to put an intelligent robot in every commercial kitchen in the world. We have signed multiple multiyear contracts with various large food companies and we are growing fast. Were backed by investors like Kleiner Perkins Construct Bloomberg BETA and Promus Ventures. About The Role
As a Mechanical Engineer at Chef Robotics youll help shape the future of automation in food production. Youll play a critical role in designing and developing a scalable manipulation system that powers our robots to prepare millions of meals with precision consistency and reliability in highthroughput environments.
As a small team we are focused on building a positive inoffice culture. We are looking for individuals who are available to work onsite at the office five days a week and can work startuporiented hours.
In this role you will:
- Design and build various mechanical/mechatronics components for computercontrolled products automated control systems and selfmonitoring systems.
- Work with multiple teams to create analyze and develop mechanical designs for the Chef System.
- Engage with vendors to identify select and source materials and components for mechatronic system designs.
- Design and build processes to test systems and conduct reliability testing; conduct studies to determine the feasibility costs or performance benefits of new mechatronic equipment.
- Create engineering drawings and documentation.
- Work with the manufacturing team to help see designs all the way through to production.
What You Bring:
- BS MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 5 years of industry experience in mechanical design or robotics.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD CAM solid modeling surface modeling and sheet metal.
- Proficiency with fabrication drawings 2D drawings and knowledge of GD&T.
- Accomplished the full product cycle from conceptualization to design to release to redesign.
- Strong understanding of FEA risk analysis solid mechanics heat and stress transfer simulation.
Nice to Have:
- Experienced with early startups or the food and beverage industry.
- Experienced with PLCs Ubuntu and depth cameras.
- Familiar with the Robot Operating System (ROS) Python Arduino C or Electromechanical system design.
- Familiar with thermodynamics.
$140000 $175000 a year
Chef is an earlystage startup where equity is a major part of the compensation package. As the company secures more capital we will gradually increase salary and cash compensation. The starting salary will depend on seniority.
