King Countys Department of Local Services (DLS) is currently recruiting for Seasonal ShortTerm Temporary Roads Maintenance Worker I positions within the Road Services Division Maintenance Section. These roles are expected to last up to six months and provide an opportunity to gain handson experience and develop valuable new skills. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
King County is the local service provider for the roughly quartermillion people who live in the unincorporated areas of the county; taken together Unincorporated King County would be the secondlargest city in the state. The Department of Local Services includes a Directors Office with a Community Service Area group and the Road Services and Permitting Divisions. Together this department provides a single executive point of accountability for delivery of local services to all of the unincorporated areas.
The King County Road Services Division designs builds operates and maintains roads and bridges in unincorporated areas of King County in an efficient and environmentally responsible manner to protect the publics investment and facilitate safe travel. The division is committed to ensuring the countys transportation system is safe and efficient for all uses and modes of travel. The Division is responsible for 1500 miles of road and 182 bridges 5.7 million feet of drainage ditches over44000 traffic control signs 78 traffic signals and 50 traffic cameras in unincorporated King County.Job Duties
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
Have a desire to learn construction road maintenance and heavy manual labor areas.
Possess traffic control knowledge and familiarity with setting up traffic control measures on streets and highways.
Are skilled in performing minor construction and repairs on drainage infrastructure (pipes manholes catch basins culverts etc.).
Are comfortable with physically demanding tasks such as shoveling snow gravel asphalt and dirt; and digging post holes and setting posts.
Are knowledgeable in the proper use and care of hand tools and equipment commonly used in construction road maintenance or other heavy manual laborintensive fields.
Understands and follows safety protocols and regulations related to construction and road maintenance including fall protection confined space entry and handling of hazardous materials.
Have the ability to read and interpret maps (e.g. Thomas Brothers or similar) and applying basic geographic orientation.
Have strong communication skills both orally and in writing.
Demonstrates behaviors that include fairness respect and inclusiveness.
Have experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and providing excellent customer service.
Are flexible and willing to perform additional duties as assigned to support team operations.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Have a valid Washington State Drivers License or the ability to obtain one prior to start date.
Have a valid Washington State Flagging Certificate valid CPR and First Aid certifications OR ability to obtain within two (2) months of hire.
An offer of employment will be contingent upon the successful completion of a preemployment physical examination.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to lift carry move or handle up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to perform duties involving physical labor including bending kneeling standing reaching climbing stooping squatting pushing and twisting.
Must be able to perform work outdoors and in inclement weather.
WORK LOCATION:
We have multiple sites across King County WA. The primary base of operations is located in Renton WA with outlying maintenances facilities located in: Black Diamond Vashon Skykomish Fall City and Redmond.We are currently recruiting for the following location: Renton WA.

PRACTICAL EXAM/INTERVIEWS ALL IN ONE DAY:
Applicants will be screened for clarity completeness and competitiveness. The most competitive candidates may be invited to participate in one or more interviews.
Those applicants who pass theinitialscreeningwill be invited toparticipateina inperson practical exam/interview on the same day the week of May 26th 2025. Only those who pass the practical exam will move forward to interview.

This recruitment is open to all qualified applicants and in addition to fillingeight (8) ShortTerm Temporary positions it may also be used to fill current and or/future shortterm temporary positions over the next six months.

WORK SCHEDULE:
The workschedule will consist of four tenhour days in thespring/summer Monday Thursday 6:00 am 4:30 pm and five eighthour days in the fall/winter Monday Friday 7:00 am 3:30 pm.
EMERGENCY DESIGNATION STATUS:
This position has been designated (First Responder) Employees who in the early stages of an incident are responsible for protecting and preserving life property evidence the environment and restoring order.
