The Homeward Bound program is an employment program for single motherled families transitioning from shelter life to selfsustainable community living. The program includes skill development college internships and support for sustainable employment. Homeward Bound also offers affordable housing onsite daycare a parenting program an after4 program for schoolaged children and fullday programming for schoolaged children during March break summer break and PA days.

What You Will Do
  • Assist with planning and delivering afterschool activities which facilitate educational and life skills development.
  • Provide spontaneous ageappropriate activities for children in the program.
  • Escort children daily from various schools to our location (via walking).
  • Help prepare and cook healthy snacks.
  • Assist in overseeing the safety of the children for both offsite trips and in the onsite space (March break PA Days Summer break).
  • Work in accordance with all relevant legislation bylaws program and organizational policies.


What You Bring to the Team
  • Postsecondary education in child and youth work social services education or child development preferred.
  • 1 year of experience working with children within the targeted age group).

What Will Set You Apart
  • Ability to work additional hours on school holidays including March Break and summer camp.
  • Knowledge of child development and learning needs of children 4 12 years.
  • Ability to work with children and parents who have experienced violence or homelessness and some understanding of this populations unique issues.
  • Understanding of community development and childcentred approaches.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Experience working with children with emotional or social challenges.
  • Excellent communication and problemsolving skills.
  • Flexible and able to work in a fastpaced environment.
  • Proven capacity to work oneonone with children and relate to them in a nonjudgmental and respectful way.
  • First Aid Certification is considered an asset

Must meet the participant requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs Agreement with Employment and Social Development Canada as outlined:
  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*;
  • be a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen permanent resident or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the CSJ program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market the temporary nature of an international students time in Canada does not allow for a longterm connection to the labour market.
