The Assistant Dean of Nursing serves as a key administrative leader within the BSN program working closely with the Dean to advance academic excellence operational efficiency and program quality. This role involves supporting curriculum development faculty coordination student success initiatives and accreditation efforts while fostering partnerships with healthcare organizations and the community.
Academic Support and Curriculum Implementation:
Assist in developing implementing and evaluating the BSN curriculum to align with accreditation standards (e.g. CCNE ACEN) and prepare students for the NCLEXRN licensure exam.
Monitor and integrate emerging trends in nursing education such as patient care technology health informatics and evidencebased practices.
Support the Dean in ensuring curriculum compliance with state nursing board requirements.
Faculty Coordination and Development:
Assist in recruiting onboarding and mentoring faculty ensuring alignment with program goals.
Coordinate faculty schedules teaching assignments and professional development activities.
Support faculty in integrating innovative teaching methods and research into the classroom.
Student Success and Advising:
Oversee student academic advising clinical placements and support services to promote retention and graduation.
Address student concerns provide guidance and foster a supportive learning environment.
Collaborate with career services to enhance student preparation for nursing careers.
Program Administration and Accreditation Support:
Assist in managing the nursing departments budget resources and facilities.
Support accreditation processes by preparing reports collecting data and ensuring compliance with federal state and accreditation standards.
Maintain accurate records for program evaluation and regulatory audits.
Clinical Partnerships and Community Engagement:
Coordinate clinical placement programs securing and maintaining relationships with healthcare facilities for student training.
Represent the program at community events professional conferences and university functions.
Support partnerships with healthcare organizations to enhance clinical opportunities and workforce development.
Strategic and Operational Support:
Contribute to strategic planning program assessment and quality improvement initiatives under the Deans direction.
Assist in grant writing fundraising and alumni engagement to support program growth and scholarships.
Oversee nursingspecific events such as pinning ceremonies and support student and faculty recognition programs.
Education:
Masters degree in Nursing (MSN) required; Doctorate (PhD DNP or EdD) in Nursing or a related field preferred.
Licensure:
Current unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Experience:
Minimum of 35 years of experience in nursing education clinical practice or administration.
At least 23 years of teaching experience at the baccalaureate level preferred.
Experience with curriculum development accreditation processes or program administration is a plus.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
Knowledge of nursing education trends accreditation standards and healthcare practices.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and support a collaborative academic culture.
Commitment to diversity equity and inclusion in education and healthcare.
Setting: Primarily officebased within a university or college with occasional visits to clinical sites or community events.
Hours: Fulltime with potential evening or weekend commitments for events or administrative needs.
Travel: May involve limited travel to clinical sites conferences or partner institutions.
The Assistant Dean reports to the Dean of Nursing and may supervise staff or faculty depending on the institutions structure.
Specific requirements (e.g. teaching experience certifications) may vary by institution or state regulations.
