Job Description

HOURS 37.5 hours per week. Shifts are Monday to Friday (9:00am to 5:00pm) with one late shift (11:00am to 7:00pm) per week on a set schedule and one Saturday shift worked per month. Some flexibility in work hours may be required.

How You Will Make an Impact

The successful candidate will extend our mission to residential and nonresidential clients through the provision of respectful and appropriate housing support services. This may include case management crisis intervention and supportive counseling. The incumbent must be able to work independently in a challenging and rewarding valuesbased environment.

  • Support service users in conducting a housing search including accompaniment into the community filling out rental applications and offering advocacy where required
  • Remain current on relevant community resources and to develop and maintain professional relationships with individuals and organizations within the community who provide complementary services
  • Liaise with community landlords and other housing providers to develop partnerships and build an inventory of rental units
  • Mediate housing related matters between landlords and tenants to support housing sustainability
  • Coordinate finances lease signings move in inspections repairs and maintenance to prepare for new tenancy
  • Work in collaboration with shelter staff housing first programs and community partners to develop housing plans that support rapid exit from homelessness.
  • Assist service users in navigating various governmental and nongovernmental systems
  • Support service users in building both formal and informal support networks that will assist them in maintaining housing and enhanced quality of life
  • Assist in developing a plan within a brief intervention approach that decreases the likelihood of a future or recurrent housing crises including assisting with connections to other services
  • Attend weekly case conference to share housing information and resources with shelter staff
  • Observe all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations

What Youll Bring to Our Team

  • Postsecondary education in Social Service or a related field is required
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education training and experience in Social Services or a related field
  • Have demonstrated knowledge of Housing First Framework and the ability to assist service users with system navigation
  • Have strong understanding of and experience working with a range of issues impacting youth women and families including homelessness violence against women and children poverty mental illness and substance use
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the housing system in the City of Hamilton the Residential Tenancies Act Landlord and Tenant Board and the Ontario Human Rights Code required
  • Commitment to and experience working within a personcentered traumainformed harm reduction and housing first framework
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills verbal and written communication time management and organization and ability to prioritize workload
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required
  • Valid G license required
  • Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset
