JOB SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision responsible for Sheriffs office buildings and grounds. Incumbents must work under a Tech II at an apprentice level to gain skills in but not limited to HVAC Plumbing electrical welding carpentry landscaping automated controls and basic audio visual networks to build maintain repair and construct within CCSO facilities to fulfill work requests. This position will be on standby for all 10100s and may respond to incidents and emergencies and serves as Essential Personnel during major storms and hurricanes. This is an entry level position and training will be provided. Once all other qualifications are met and one year as a Tech I has passed Incumbents will be eligible for a transfer to Tech II.

Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Conducts routine facility maintenance and safety inspections documenting and prioritizing issues based on agency policies manufacturer recommendations and regulatory guidelines.
  • Identifies and reports maintenance safety and compliance concerns ensuring timely resolution by coordinating with appropriate personnel or departments.
  • Maintains and repairs security equipment (e.g. locks cameras gates) to ensure proper functionality and safety compliance.
  • Performs maintenance tasks such as replacing light fixtures painting drywall installation and repairing furniture adhering to safety standards and minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Maintains outdoor sprinkler systems and performs small engine repairs on equipment like chainsaws blowers and portable generators.
  • Ensures agency grounds are clean safe and professionally maintained particularly during routine operations hurricane preparation and cleanup.
  • Moves transports and discards furniture and equipment safely and efficiently ensuring proper handling and delivery.
  • Escorts vendors and contractors performing work on agency property ensuring compliance with security policies and regulations.
  • Completes custodial duties as needed to maintain clean and safe facilities in accordance with FMJS requirements.
  • Maintains accurate daily activity logs detailing work performed materials used and time spent on each task to ensure proper documentation and accountability.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing documents in a timely manner following supervisory direction and agency procedures.
  • Adheres to preventative maintenance schedules and updates supervisors on noteworthy issues or incidents.
  • Actively participates in jobspecific training and completes required certifications utilizing both online and inperson learning platforms.
  • Remains onsite during natural disasters severe weather and emergencies ensuring the safety and functionality of the facility.
  • Prioritizes maintenance requests based on urgency and safety concerns to meet agency and legal obligations.
  • Demonstrates professionalism courtesy and ethical behavior in all interactions with the public colleagues and agency personnel.
  • Respects cultural religious and gender differences when engaging with coworkers and the public.
  • Cultivates positive working relationships with colleagues and participates in crosstraining to enhance teamwork and operational efficiency.
  • Responds to supervision and feedback in a receptive manner following agency policies and demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Regularly checks and responds to communications via mailbox phone and email in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Adheres to attendance and leave policies ensuring punctuality and timely submission of timesheets leave requests and other required documentation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned ensuring tasks are completed accurately and in alignment with agency standards.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

LICENCES EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office products
  • Speak and understand the English language.
  • One (1) year of relevant work experience in general building maintenance required or education and certifications in jobrelevant specialties (i.e. electrical plumbing HVAC locks welding or carpentry) may substitute for experience.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida Drivers License.
  • Internal candidates must have successfully completed their probationary period.
  • Internal candidates with punitive disciplinary action within 365 days are ineligible.
  • Internal candidates must have completed applicable CCSO FTEP requirements.
  • The following items (or authorized equivalents) may be required at various steps in the application process:
    1. Drivers License
    2. Birth Certificate
    3. Social Security Card
    4. Form DD214 for all periods served in the military
    5. GED or High School Diploma and Sealed Transcripts from the highest level of education
    6. FDLE Authority for Release (notarized)


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Basic knowledge of applicable OSHA and State Workplace Safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to correctly identify troubleshoot repair and replace broken faulty or wornout parts components and other equipment.
  • Moderate knowledge of construction techniques.
  • Able to communicate verbal information instructions and commands clearly and intelligently.
  • Moderate knowledge in one of these areas (HVAC Plumbing electrical welding carpentry construction landscaping automated controls basic audio visual networks).
  • Able to show selfinitiative to contribute to departmental goals within policy boundaries.
  • Basic skills in the use of office equipment Microsoft applications printers telephone and computer program software/systems required to perform position tasks.
  • Must be able to work without fear of heights.
  • Moderate skills maneuvering large equipment (i.e. forklift truck towing trailer cherry picker).
  • Able to exercise judgment to identify and analyze problems and develop effective solutions.
  • Skill in time management to efficiently prioritize and address work requests daily.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with internal and external personnel.
  • Willingness to work in cramped spaces.
  • Ability to correctly interpret applicable OSHA and State Workplace Safety rules and regulations governing workplace safety issues and compliance criteria as they apply to the members area of responsibility.
  • Ability to recognize materials potentially containing asbestos assess the level of risk and effectively follow protocols to limit exposure for oneself and others in the facility.
  • Ability to add subtract multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions. The ability to comprehend and compute ratios and percentages.
  • Ability to work in proximity of inmates and trustees.
  • Familiarity with federal state and local regulations regarding asbestos handling and disposal as well as knowledge of the health risks associated with asbestos exposure.
  • Proficiency in using protective equipment such as respirators and protective suits and the ability to properly contain and label asbestos materials for safe disposal.

Supplemental Information


Salary is negotiable for fulltime positions prior to initial hire if requested based on verified experience up to step five (5) of the assigned pay grade. Current employee salary changes are determined based on internal methodology. Please contact Human Resources with any questions.
