Job Description
THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections is seeking reliable Parole Agent 1s to join our team at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Waymart. As a trainee in this position you will learn how to supervise offenders released on probation or parole to serve the remainder of their sentence in the community. NOTE: Senate Bill 411 merged the Department of Corrections and the Board of Probation and Parole. This position is within the Department of Corrections.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Parole Agent 1 you will learn how to counsel inmates in correctional institutions to prepare them for parole hearings that will lead to their release and reentry into the community. You can expect to prepare and initiate preparole investigations review inmate cases for domestic violence history complete sex offender registration when necessary and aid in other parolerelated processes. In this position you will conduct orientation for newly committed offenders to inform them of preparole services. You will also conduct parole education classes to educate inmates about the parole process. Additionally you will act as a point of contact for inmates their families government agencies and the public.
Successful completion of the 12month training and probationary period will result in a promotion to Parole Agent 2 with an increase in salary!

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Fulltime employment 40 hours per week
- Work schedule and hours are to be determined. You will work holidays and weekends as required.
- You must be willing to travel.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of paraprofessional experience which includes two years of paraprofessional social services human services corrections or law enforcement experience;or
- Two years of paraprofessional social services human services corrections or law enforcement experience and an associates degree;or
- A bachelors degree in criminal justice law enforcement legal studies political science behavioral science or a related field;or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirements:
- All positions require possession of an active noncommercial Pennsylvania Class C drivers license or equivalent.
- All employees must obtain CLEAN certification within two months of employment and maintain this certification for the duration of employment in this job.
Other Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Parole Agent 1 basic training program at the Training Academy in Elizabethtown PA is required.

Legal Requirements:
- A conditional offer of employment will requirea medical examination and drug screening.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
