Description

Position Title: Technology Support Specialist.
Department: Library and Information Technology Services.
Classification: NonExempt.
FTE: 1.0.
Work Schedule: MondayFriday 8AM to 5PM; On campus position with flexibility to work remotely occasionally with approval of the Director of Technology Support Services; occasional evening or weekend work as need required; travel less than 2% of the work schedule which includes local (Twin Cities metro area) regional and national travel.
Hourly Rate: $22 $25.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Desktop Support and Education Services.
    • Work with the Desktop team providing second tier support for faculty and staff. Respond to Helpdesk tickets and respond to users phone and walkin inquiries in a timely fashion.
    • Coordinate the installation of new faculty and staff hardware including physical set up data transfers special software installations etc.
    • Work with faculty and staff to update operating systems and other software applications when we are not able to push the updates or pushing the updates has failed.
    • Install department and lab software.
  • System Services.
    • Assist the Desktop Systems administrators support and maintain the public and residential hall lab facilities including system builds software installations and maintenance and lab setups.
    • Track down undocumented inventory changes using software tools and physical checking of last known locations.
    • Work with the desktop team to determine hardware and software for faculty and staff computers.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities.
    • Hire train and supervise one to two student employees.
    • Assist with the training of the Helpdesk student employees.
  • Promote services and represent the libraries and IT including creating media planning & working at events contributing ideas and helping the Events and Engagement committee to make the libraries a welcoming place.
  • Support respect and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds values and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community.
  • Complete and meet deadlines for required training and performance management cycle 7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received and Exercised:

  • Reports to the Director of Technology Support Services.
  • This position does not supervise staff or students.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Associates degree vocational training or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: 1 years experience supporting operating systems including Windows and MacOS; 1 years of experience installing and maintaining computers printers and peripherals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors degree.
  • Experience: Experience providing IT support in a higher education setting.

Prerequisites:

  • Employment in this position is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check which may include: criminal background checks reference checks verification of work history verification of any required academic credentials licenses and/or certifications a motor vehicle check verification of DOT certification a credit check employment eligibility verification and/or a preemployment physical. Whether a background check is deemed successfully completed will be at the sole discretion of St. Olaf College. Please note St. Olaf College reserves the right to conduct periodic background checks at its sole discretion.
