Description
POSITION SUMMARY
- Select the correct equip5ment and lifting devices that will bear heavy loads.
- Select the right tools to move and position heavy objects safely and efficiently.
- Conduct weight testing in accordance with specified technical manuals for equipment such as cranes davits winches anchors and anchor chains.
- Control movement of heavy objects/equipment through narrow openings and confined spaces using jacks pulley blocks chain falls and rollers.
- Install hooks swivels and turn buckles in rigging operations.
- Use signals with workers operating cranes or other equipment to move loads safely.
- Select and attach gears braces and cushions according to weight and distribution of the load.
- Control costs in assigned area and recommend improved methods of operation for cost savings.
- Train and supervise lowerlevel mechanics and semiskilled employees.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures at the work site.
- Abide by all safety rules company and shipyard practices.
- Assist other trades as required.

Qualifications
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be able to read write and comprehend instructions in written or spoken in English.
- Must be reliable with a strong work ethic.
- Must have basic hand tools applicable to your trade with bag or tote.
- Must be able to wear applicable PPE (Hard hat safety goggles gloves steel toes shoes ear protection)
Desired Education and Experience:
- Education Minimum: High School Diploma/GED
- Preferred Minimum: Trade School Apprenticeship or Higher Education
- Minimum Relevant Experience: 5 years
Preferred Relevant Experience: 7 years. - Basic computer skills preferred
Other Requirements:
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be eligible to obtain DBIDs.
- Must be able to pass a drug screening.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to work in on around over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from lifts ladders and scaffolding; to manipulate heavy equipment tools and supplies and/or exert 50 lbs.; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls and machinery; to work in hazardous or irritating environments confined spaces and adverse weather or temperature conditions to wear and work in personnel protective equipment.
