One PA West Southwest Rising is a new project building the power of working class neighbors in West and Southwest Philadelphia to create a more just and equitable neighborhood. We believe that it is possible to create a neighborhood where everyone can thrive that movements must be led by those most impacted by injustice and that meaningful change requires building power. We build power in two ways: People Power by building a mass organization that engages in collective action and Electoral Power by developing a bloc of educated and committed voters. As we work to transform our community we also seek to transform ourselves by developing leaders repairing harm and building unity and solidarity across our communities. Our primary goals are to build a powerful base of working class members rooted in West and Southwest Philadelphia organize voters to hold elected officials accountable and lead campaigns that improve peoples lives while building our power to take on bigger fights in the future.
West Southwest Rising is a regional Chapter of One PA a grassroots movement for racial economic and social justice in Pennsylvania. One PA empowers Black communities through community organizing voter education and leadership development. One PAs commitment is to challenge political disillusionment protect and expand democracy and unite everyday people to have a voice in our political system.
Summary:
The West Southwest Rising Organizer will work with the Project Director to build and sustain West Southwest Rising as a regional chapter of One PA organizing people in West and Southwest Philadelphia to build power for a more just and equitable community. A primary focus will be on building and sustaining a base of members through oneonones door knocking phone calls and house meetings. In addition The Organizer will be responsible for forming member committees supporting members political and leadership development organizing community meetings and events and supporting voter engagement efforts. In addition the organizer will play a key role in working with members to develop and enact campaigns that address root causes of injustice and improve peoples lives.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a working class basebuilding organization carrying out membership recruitment and development. They will have an understanding of systemic inequities a commitment to social justice and relevant lived experience. They will have a collaborative spirit and work with the other departments at One PA. Because no single candidate will meet all of the qualifications we are willing to train those who show promise and encourage you to apply. Direct knowledge of West and Southwest Philadelphia and experience with electoral organizing are a plus.
Reports To: West/Southwest Organizing Project Director
Responsibilities:
Recruit members to participate in and join One PA West Southwest Rising
Perform outreach through flyering outdoor canvassing phone calls text messages follow up with hot leads and social media
Develop the political and leadership skills of member leaders
Build and support member committees
Support the development of campaigns to address neighborhood issues
Organize community meetings events and direct actions
Support voter turnout efforts
Work collaboratively with One PAs political operations civic engagement development and communications departments
Qualifications
1 years of basebuilding experience in community faithbased student or labor organizations as paid staff or core volunteer
Demonstrated track record for building relationships and moving people to action
Experiencing and willingness to conduct outreach through door knocking street outreach and phone calls
Deep understanding of the issues facing West and Southwest Philadelphia and their root causes and solutions
Meeting facilitation leadership development skills
Experience with electoral organizing a plus
Strong written and oral communications skills
Proven ability to work independently and proactively
Ability to handle multiple tasks projects and deadlines
High degree of emotional awareness and listening skills
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite Google Suite and comfort with technology for use of EveryAction digital database for tracking membership and events

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.
Access to and operating a car is required. Willingness to travel and the ability to competently navigate the city is required. Occasional opportunities to travel across the state or country for training or with members can be reasonably expected. One Pennsylvania provides mileage reimbursement at the Federal rate per diem and lodging when working away from home. Ability to work hours exceeding stated office hours to get the job done; ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends when necessary. Physical requirements include walking outdoors year round for multiple hours at a time climbing stairs and the ability to lift 25 pounds. The position will be based in Philadelphia and will be a hybrid work environment.
Compensation
The salary range for this position will be $50000$65000 depending on experience. Benefits package includes a fully paid health insurance plan optional 401K with a generous employer match after 6 months. Professional development opportunities. Generous paid time off allowances.
