Job Description

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU) a state and landgrant institution of the University System of Georgia invites applications for the position of Network Support Specialist.

Fort Valley State University the only 1890 landgrant university in Georgia is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County the original site of the states peach industry. Its 1365acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgias secondlargest public university in area.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Network Support Specialist will ensure the stable operation of the enterprise computer network and implement and/or facilitate the initiatives of Chief Information Officer

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan develop install configure maintain support and optimize all network hardware software and communication links
  • Recommend schedule and perform network improvements upgrades and repairs
  • Develop implement and maintain the policies and procedures for network resource administration and disaster recovery
  • Manage security solutions including firewall antivirus and intrusion detection systems
  • Interact and negotiate with vendors outsourcers and contractors to secure network products and services
  • Implement other job duties as directed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates or Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or closely related field; equivalent training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to present ideas in userfriendly language
  • Proven analytical and problemsolving abilities
  • Experience working in a teamoriented collaborative environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICCATIONS

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Computer Science
  • Network
  • Certification in CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate)
  • Cisco Networking experience.
  • Higher Education Experience
