Job Description

Spacecraft Operations Systems Engineer Entry or Associates Levels

The Boeing Defense Space and Security (BDS) Space and Launch Division is seeking a Space Vehicle Operations Systems Engineer Entry or Associates Levels (Level 1/2) to support daily operations at a spacecraft ground station as part of a Mission Operations team in Springfield VA. The Command and Control engineering team is responsible for all aspects of spacecraft operations and maintenance. In addition our Space and Launch team work with proprietary customers in the development of the nextgeneration technologies in space. Our group works all facets of spacecraft operations from spacecraft control spacecraft system engineering mission planning and vehicle engineering.

Position Overview:

The Entry/Associate Space Vehicle Operations Systems Engineerwill be a part of a highperforming team that is immersed in highly complex operational systems. As a member of our team you will have the opportunity to collaborate with software developers external engineering groups and our customer to resolve anomalies integrate new or upgraded systems and strive for 100% mission success. This role will include a comprehensive OnTheJob training program where you will learn about our ground software systems RF signals antenna systems and spacecraft orbits.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of spacecraft operations including mission planning and/or monitoring and trending the onorbit spacecraft telemetry looking for adverse trends that could affect operations as well as planning and execution of all required spacecraft and ground system maintenance and recovery from spacecraft anomalies. This also includes ensuring the integrity of the ground system and operational software to maintain command and control.
  • Coordinate with external groups on current and future ground system testing and integration; spacecraft launch transfer and initialization (LT&I); as well as participate in war rooms in support of anomaly resolutions.
  • Analyze technical data verify and sustain specific system configurations in accordance with defined constraints and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate with management and peers to ensure the integrity and continuity of high quality operational products including procedures tools detailed event logging training material and system configuration.
  • Create and collaborate on process improvements that aim to increase operational efficiency for example by developing new software tools creating new operational procedures and increasing system automation.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An final U.S. Top Secret/SCI and adjudicated CI polygraph Prestart is required. A U.S. Security Clearance can take 8 16 months or more to be granted after offer acceptance.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering computer science mathematics physics or chemistry
  • Associate (Level 2): 2 or more years related engineering work experience or an equivalent combination of education and engineering experience (e.g. Masters PhD)
  • Ability to successfully complete a Space Vehicle Certification program which requires a combination of selfstudy and onthejob (OJT) training
  • Willingness to work a rotating shift
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 1 year or more of experience in a technical or engineering field (typically acquired through various certifications technical work experience apprenticeships technical coursework and/or military experience).
  • Spacecraft orbit knowledge coursework or experience.
  • Experience with RF (radio frequency) signals and/or ground communication network systems.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: C C Python Matlab Java or Linux.
  • Completed CI or Full Scope Polygraph.
  • Active TS/SCI U.S. Security Clearance
  • Prior military service or experience in national space programs.
  • Experience with systems engineering principles.

Security Clearance:

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. A final U.S. Top Secret/SCI Clearance PreStart is required.
