Job Description

POSITION LOCATION:

McRae Elementary

FLSA:

Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must hold proper state license.

EDUCATION:

Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

EXPERIENCE:

Successful prior special education teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.

REPORTS TO:

Principal and/or other Supervisor

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Reviews assessments of students for the purpose of identifying learning issues and recommending courses of action or corrective procedures to overcome issues and maximize learning.
  • Assists students and teaching staff in implementing interventions and behavior management plans.
  • Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual students abilities and needs including students with special needs and to familiarize stakeholders with social work services.
  • Serves as a ready resource to students and parents to provide interventions that will lead each student to increased personal growth selfunderstanding and behavioral management.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete recordkeeping.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom he or she is responsible.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs and interests.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons units and projects and communicate those objectives tostudents.
  • Prepare administer and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students progress.
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their childrens progress.
  • Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students needs and progress.
  • Use computers audiovisual aids and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.
  • Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
  • Attend professional meetings educational conferences and teacher training workshops in order tomaintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in selfevaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
