Job Description
GAI is seeking a Technical Specialist 5 (transmission line) to join our Power Delivery team. Required skills include transmission line design experience critical thinking problem solving organization teamfocus and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems. The right candidate will be able to work from one of the following locations: Chicago IL; Fort Wayne IN; Jackson MI; Overland Park KS; Orlando FL; Palm Beach Gardens FL; Pittsburgh PA; Tampa FL. Additionally the right candidate could have the ability to work remote or from a hybrid schedule.
As a GAI technical specialist 5 this position is responsible assisting a team of engineers and project managers with transmission line designs. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical communication and computer skills.
Job Responsibilities:
- Complete daytoday project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include:
- Preparation of Specification Packages
- Preparation of Structural and Fabrication Drawings
- Design and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLSCADD PLSPOLE and PLSTower
- Design and Analysis of foundations.
- Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes standards and specifications.
- Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
- Coordination and development of permits for Railroads Roadways and Environmental Crossings.
- Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
- Must demonstrate attention to detail.
- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.

- Modifies or extends accepted theories and practices of engineering to complete assignments.
- Leads tasks and projects of moderately complex scopes.
- Supports development of plans specifications and other project documents.
- Selects appropriate principles of engineering economics and probability and statistics to analyze risk in a complex engineering problem.

- B.S. Engineering or other technical degree

Technical Responsibilities
- Predominantly develops and reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
- Keeps informed of updates to standards regulations and best practices.
- Predominantly analyzes complex engineering projects to determine design requirements uncertainties and constraints.
- Acknowledges and applies concepts of sustainability to engineering projects.
Project and Task Management
- Assigns tasks to and directs other technical and nontechnical staff.
- Predominantly plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work.
- Predominantly prepares scopes budgets and schedules for assignments.
- Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects.
Management Responsibility
- Receives supervision and guidance relating to overall objectives critical issues new concepts and policy matters.
- Receives direction on unusual conditions and developments.
- Provides mentored experience to direct reports and other engineers.
- Demonstrates professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering including creativity curiosity flexibility and dependability.
Communication Skills
- Possesses advanced oral and written communication skills including interpretation of complex technical and contractual language.
- Considers the needs of diverse project stakeholders.
- Leads project meetings and represents the practice in communications pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments.
- Analyzes and selects principles of formal communication effective teamwork and various pathways to developing leadership.
