The Vertex Coop Program offers students the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a handson perspective. You will be working closely with and learning from some of the brightest people in the industry. Job Summary:

Our Analytical Development (AD) group within Vertex Cell and Gene Therapies (VCGT) works closely with research and process development (PD) teams to develop biophysical analytical methods for product characterization. A successful coop will help support routine testing across multiple cell and gene therapy modalities. Additionally opportunities to support ongoing method development/optimization efforts within our biophysical group will also be present. As a coop at Vertex Pharmaceuticals you will have the unique opportunity to gain practical experience and contribute to meaningful projects. This role is designed to provide you with exposure to various aspects of drug development helping you build valuable skills while working alongside experienced professionals in a dynamic and innovative biopharmaceutical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop analytical methods using common biophysical techniques (e.g. DLS ELISA HPLC MALS LCMS etc.) for biologics gene and cell therapy products such as RNPs ADCs and cells
• Perform routine sample characterization to support process development
• Report on project progress write analytical development protocols and method development reports
• Maintain excellent written documentation (e.g. lab notebook and test forms)
• Assist with lab organization and compliance with lab safety protocols.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree in life sciences (e.g. biology chemistry or analytical chemistry) with 12 years of research experience
• Handson experience with DLS ELISA MALS HPLC mass spectrometry (MS) or other common biophysical technologies
• Highly motivated organized with a proven track record of demonstrating competency with learning new analytical techniques
• Excellent communication skills with the proven ability to build open and collaborative relationships and work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
• Legal authorization to work in the United States now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships or entry level roles within this part of the organization.
• Candidate must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before July 2025

Program Dates: July December 2025 Full Time

Pay Range 20.00 35.00 USD/hour

The range provided is a reasonable estimate for the pay range for this job at the time of posting. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal and state requirements.
