Job Overview
The SpecialistPrograms provides administrative support and training to schoolbased and divisionlevel staff. The SpecialistPrograms supports teachers and students in special education specialized programs for students with Autism Intellectual Disabilities and Multiple Disabilities.
Roles and Responsibilities
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
- Collaborates with Student Services other administrative departments as well as schoolbased staff on the development and implementation of program and student instruction and interventions.
- Works closely with school and divisionlevel staff to implement and support curriculum planning and instruction to include adapted and general education curriculum specialized reading and specialized math.
- Provides support coaching and modeling to schoolbased teams to assess and intervene in student behavioral challenges including developing and implementing Functional Behavior Assessments Behavior Intervention Plans and Crisis Plans.
- Assists in the coordination leadership and supervision of Specialized Instructional Facilitators for Programs.
- Participates in the planning and implementation of professional development for schoolbased administrators divisionlevel support staff and specialized program staff including teachers teacher assistants and behavior assistants.
- Provides training support and technical assistance to schoolbased teams in the areas of Applied Behavior Analysis and evidencebased practices.
- Provides oversight for required data collection activities and guides staff in the review and analysis of data for promoting social behavioral and academic success for students.
- Collaborates with divisionlevel and schoolbased teams to support data driven discussions and decisions regarding a students Least Restrictive Environment in the Continuum of Supports LCPS offers.
- Supports schoolbased teams during Individualized Education Plan meetings as needed.
- Supports schoolbased teams with development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans.
- Supports the Supervisor for Programs in developing and maintaining rosters for specialized programs.
Qualifications
Below are the minimum qualifications for this job. Equivalent combinations of education and experience are also acceptable.
Education
Experience
- Five years of successful experience in supporting students with neurodevelopmental disabilities behavioral challenges and/or medical needs
- Extensive experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Emotional Disabilities
Licenses and Certifications
- Postgraduate Professional License with special education endorsements in two or more disability categories; administrative endorsement and experience preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of general and adapted curriculum criterion referenced assessments behavioral principles/ applied behavior analysis and special education law and regulations
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work collaboratively and effectively with students teachers administrators and parents
