PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The principal provides instructional leadership through planning organizing directing supervising and evaluating the instructional program and personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Masters degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas MidManagement or Principal Certification
  • Current certification in instructional Leadership Development (ILD) and Professional Development and Appraisal System (PDAS)
  • Valid Texas Drivers License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Nonrefundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of goal setting curriculum school organization staffing and budget

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years secondary administrative experience
  • Experience in planning and presenting staff development

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

(The following statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned and should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities skills efforts or working conditions that may be assigned or skills that may be required.)

  • Establish with the faculty the goals and objectives of the instructional program in accordance with school board policy and in keeping with the stated philosophy of the program and district
  • Develop the instructional program schedule
  • Promote staff and program development through inservice training
  • Develop with staff the mission and campus plan of action based on identified needs and program outcomes
  • Promote high standards of scholastic achievement citizenship and attendance
  • Develop an organizational pattern which provides for adapting the instructional program practices and structures to the needs of individual students in an atmosphere conducive to learning
  • Communicate and promote high expectation levels for staff and student performance in an enabling supportive way
  • Coordinate the supervision of safety drills
  • Maintain a system of permanent records of all students
  • Develop (as necessary) maintain and utilize appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of the schools mission and overall school efforts
  • Select the best possible personnel qualified to perform effectively in the position to which they may be assigned
  • Evaluate instructional personnel within the guidelines and policies adopted by the school board
  • Submit to the Director of Pupil Services recommendations regarding the assignment retention on or dismissal of all personnel assigned to the school
  • Coordinate the selection and assignment of substitute teachers
  • Coordinate the supervision of the guidance and counseling services
  • Supervise all administrative and office procedures
  • Develop the school budget
  • Develop an organizational schedule and assign facilities for students and staff
  • Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports required by local state or federal agencies
  • Supervise the maintenance of all internal financial accounts and records
  • Supervise the maintenance of school facilities and the submission of requisitions for supplies and equipment
  • Carry out the policies of the school board as directed by the superintendent
  • Promote a positive school climate through a positive discipline management system
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that consequences of misconduct are applied equitably to all students
  • Communicate to students staff and parents school guidelines for student conduct
  • Encourage plans for improved student behavior that reflect enhanced opportunities for learning
  • Strive to improve leadership skills through selfinitiated professional development activities i.e. professional reading attending conferences and participating in training programs
  • Conduct oneself in a professional ethical manner in accordance with generally accepted community standards; complies with TEA code of ethics
  • Articulate the school mission to the community and solicit their support in making that mission become a reality
  • Demonstrate awareness of school/community needs and initiates activities to meet those identified needs
  • Coordinate with each secondary school all ARDs as required by TEA and federal guidelines
  • Coordinate with each secondary school all exit conferences for transition of students back to the regular campus
  • Coordinate with Director of Pupil Services all intake conferences as required by the Director of Pupil Services
  • Participate in professional development activities to maintain current knowledge of personnel rules regulations and practices
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educators Code of Ethics
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff assigned to campus including assistant principal(s) teacher(s) counselor(s) librarian instructional aides clerical support staff and auxiliary personnel.

  • Office equipment personal computer printer calculator multiline telephone software programs and peripherals copier fax and other equipment applicable to position.

  • Video monitoring equipment

  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Work with frequent interruptions

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent: Sitting standing walking climbing stairs and/or ramps balancing stooping kneeling crouching crawling pulling pushing reaching repetitive hand motions hearing speaking clearly visual acuity distinguishing colors driving traveling.
  • Occasional: Lifting moderate 1544 pounds; carrying moderate 1544 pounds

Environmental Factors:

  • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold) humidity extremes noise low or intense illumination vibration
  • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases bacteria insects mold fungi etc.) work outside work around moving objects or vehicles work on uneven surfaces work alone work prolonged or irregular hours.
