SY 2526 Science TeacherGENERAL INFORMATIONTitle: Science TeacherDepartment: Fort Hill Community SchoolSalary Grade:Teacher Pay Schedule
FLSA Status: ExemptSite/Location:Fort Hill Community SchoolReports to:Building AdministratorDate:4/29/2025POSITION SUMMARY
  • To teach and develop the curriculum in the area of biology. Under direction of the school principal plan and provide for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual physical social and emotional development of individuals to ensure success for every student.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Demonstrates long range planning and knowledge of the student area.
  • Completes daily written lesson plans which fulfill learning objectives consistent with LCS curricula and SOLs.
  • Plans for individual student differences.
  • Works to achieve division/school/department objectives.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching methods.
  • Communicates objective(s) and purpose(s) of lesson.
  • Utilizes various forms of technology to assist in the delivery of instruction.
  • Provides opportunities for student responses and gives appropriate feedback to students.
  • Utilizes effective motivational strategies.
  • Paces instruction to provide opportunities for student success.
  • Delivers curriculum and instruction in accordance with school division guidelines.
  • Sets communicates and maintains high standards for responsible student behavior.
  • Plans for and makes effective use of time materials and resources.
  • Organizes students for effective instruction.
  • Demonstrates respect consideration and courtesy.
  • Cooperates with other teachers to exchange ideas.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Candidates must be eligible or possess a Virginia teacher license with a science endorsement.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of technology to enhance student learning
  • Ability to work with various age groups in a flexible environment
  • Experience in an innovative learning environment
  • Knowledge of special education IEPs and Section 504 plans
  • Experience using Internet search engines
  • Experience using a student information system and/or other types of databases
  • Ability to learn new technology tools quickly (e.g. database and webbased
  • tools)
  • Ability to support student families with basic computer setup and navigation
  • Ability to support students and parents academically and logistically in a nontraditional learning environment
  • Ability to work an 8hour flexible schedule that includes required daytime hours on site and some evening hours at home
  • Ability to create databased personalized learning plans to support synchronous and asynchronous learning
  • Ability to prioritize creative thinking to ensure student engagement
  • Ability to creatively use online learning technology to help students retain information independently
  • Ability to communicate via email video conferencing phone calls and other sources of technology
  • Ability to adapt to and adjust to unexpected technological interruptions to ensure learning continues
