This position is responsible for applying Mechanical engineering knowledge to the day to day functional management of a team related to the development and implementation of mechanical engineering technologies projects or processes. The projects could consist of New Product Development Productivity Sustaining or Advanced Development projects. A successful incumbent will have the ability to solve complex mechanical engineering problems recognize gaps in process and recommend solutions.
This position is responsible for the planning of resources project planning and technical integrity of mechanical projects with in the line of business they are assigned. The manager will also plan and track these projects to ensure they are completed on schedule meets quality standards and done in accordance with the mechanical engineerings community of practice tools methodologies and processes.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the day to day management of on time on budget and quality functional project execution for one team
- Responsible for the functional plan including resource effort schedule estimate and cost for new and active projects for one team
- Responsible for 18 month project forecasting for one team; accountable for direct reports project time accounting
- Responsible for the functional design approach and technical feasibility for multiple projects with input from key technical personnel from a single team
- Ensure functional process compliance; responsible for meeting and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) for functional group
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the functional area
- Execute 13 year technology roadmap projects
- Responsible for annual expense and capital budget planning and tracking for their team
- Monitor and create training plans for direct reports that improves the core competencies of the functional area or business area
- Review and approve the functional deliverables and engineering change notices (ECNs) for all direct reports
- Ensure design quality through participation in design reviews for projects supported by team; serve on design review committee as an alternate as needed
- Comply with health and safety guidelines and rules; managers should also ensure compliance across their teams.
- Protect Chamberlain Groups reputation by keeping information confidential.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops reading professional publications establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
- Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results and participating on projects as needed.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering a related technical field or equivalent practical experience
- An advanced degree in a directly applicable area of study may substitute for up to two (2) years of experience
- 7 years of jobrelated experience as defined in the Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Experience with design and manufacturing of high volume consumer products
- Experience with machine design and manufacturing of motorized devices
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time domestically and internationally
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to train a technical staff in functional area on functional subjects process and tools
- Good understanding of Mechanical Engineering including 3D modeling Finite Element Analysis risk analysis design and testing
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification strongly preferred
- Experience with design and manufacturing of innovative consumer tech products
- Experience in project management
- Experience in outsourcing designs
- Proficiency in second language (i.e. English Spanish Mandarin)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to run a Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and Value Analysis Value Engineering (VA/VE) event
- Indepth knowledge of Waterfall and Agile development processes
The payrange/rate of pay for this position is$97700.00 $184 175.00; base payoffered may vary depending on a number of factors including but not limited to the position offered location education training and/or experience. In addition to base pay also offered is a comprehensive benefits package and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).This position is eligible for participation in a shortterm incentive plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies
