DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

Staunton City Schools located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley is seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of Director of Finance. Staunton City Schools is seeking an innovative leader who is responsible for financial management of the school divisiondevelopment monitoring reporting and executing of the school division operating and capital budgets grants and other funds long range financial planning and completing the required reports for local state and federal regulations. The Director of Finance is responsible for providing information to the public regarding the financial costs of the school division and advises the Division Superintendent on financial issues; communicates with the School Board and the Chief Finance Officer of the City.

The selected candidate must possess a blend of financial expertise and educational insight. Key skills include forming personal relationships collaborating with various stakeholders and being part of the executive leadership team to drive the districts vision forward.

Essential Functions:

Skills Knowledge and Abilities:

Comprehensive knowledge of principles of budgeting accounting and systems of financial management particularly as it relates to public schools ; thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and effective budget practices; thorough knowledge of school administration as it relates to fiscal and strategic planning; general knowledge of personnel and payroll systems and; knowledge of business process analysis and improvement at the broad organization level.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelors Degree in Business administration Public and or School Administration or equivalent field with substantial concentration in school accounting finance and budget and at least five years increasingly challenging work experience in budgeting is required. A CPA license or MBA is preferred.

Grade: 2633 (12month/260 days)

Hiring Range: $120000 to $135000 DOE/DOQ

Start Date: On or aroundJuly 2025 or negotiable

Reports To: Division Superintendent
