Job Description

When you join the growing BILH team youre not just taking a job youre making a difference in peoples lives.

Assists hemodialysis patients before during and after procedures. Assists nursing maintain dialysis machines to ensure proper functioning.

This is a full time position working 40hrs/wk rotating shifts and 100% on campus (BIDMC Boston MA).

Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assists with patient care including: transfers of patients into bed obtaining weight applying monitoring equipment (essential)
  • Assists in monitoring through treatment (essential)
  • Assists with set up and monitoring of all hemodialysis equipment (essential)
  • Collects monthly water cultures of all HD equipment; Review results and follow protocol for abnormal results (essential)
  • Identifies and participates in quality improvement process (essential)
  • Closely collaborates with Clinical Engineering and outside vendors to maintain equipment (essential)
  • Daily water testing completion of equipment quality control checks machine logs machine disinfection per policy (essential)
  • Works with materials management team to maintain Par levels of supplies monitors integrity of products including expiration dates participates in the evaluation of new products and supplies as needed (essential)

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required. Vocational or Technical training preferred.
  • License Cert Clin Hemodialysis Tech required.
  • 13 yearsrelated work experience required.
  • Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within webbased applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in Acute Care Hemodialysis Unit preferred

Problem Solving:Ability to address problems that are routine somewhat repetitive and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures and by identifying opportunities for process improvements.

Independence of Action:Ability to follow general instructions and procedures as provided. Work is monitored by supervisor/manager.

Written Communications:Ability to read and write in English in order to understand basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively with patients families and other medical center staff; and respond to basic questions.

Oral Communications:Ability to understand spoken English in order to follow basic safety instructions and take direction from supervisors; communicate effectively in basic English with patients families and medical center staff in response to routine questions.

Knowledge:Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.

Team Work:Ability to interact respectfully with other employees professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas identify issues obtain information or deliver services.

Customer Service:Ability to demonstrate a positive attitude and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.


Age based Competencies:Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups:Neonatal:Birth to 6 monthsYoung adult: 1630 yearsMiddle Age: 30 60 yearsElderly: 60 over.

Social/Environmental Requirements:

Work requires close attention to task for work to be accurately completed. Intermittent breaks during the work day do not compromise the work.

Work routine is fairly consistent but employee needs to be able to use judgment to respond to events several times a week.
