The Juneau Trial Court of the Alaska Court System is accepting applications for a Courtroom Judicial Assistant (range 12). The successful candidate will serve as an incourt clerk for Superior and District Court proceedings and will produce electronic recordings written and typed log note indexes of court hearings and process court documents.

COURTROOM DUTIES
  • Set up organize and maintain the courtroom including operation and testing of a variety of equipment;
  • Prepare and organize case files and paperwork for court proceedings;
  • Help coordinate movement of litigants Judicial Services transport officers court staff and the public in and out of court;
  • Perform bailiff duties as necessary;
  • Log multiple types of court proceedings following established procedures and practices;
  • Generate a clear consistent and accurate record of the proceedings;
  • Locate and play back portions of the court record for the judge jurors and litigants;
  • Properly identify mark maintain and store all exhibits submitted in court;
  • Prepare and distribute judgments temporary orders and other paperwork resulting from court proceedings.

DUTIES OUTSIDE OF THE COURTROOM
  • Perform duties associated with opening monitoring and closing courtcases; accept filings and review petitions and other pleadings to ensure compliance with rules; advise parties clerks and judges of potential problems or deficiencies; file all pleadings motions and correspondence in the appropriate case file;
  • Schedule hearings and trial dates for cases with district and superior court chambersjudicial assistants; prepare and distribute trial notices;
  • Respond to requests for media or records requests for case file and hearings;
  • Prepare civil and criminal bench warrants; process quashed warrants; manage the outstanding warrant and summonses audit report;
  • Assist the public agencies and other court inquiries at the front counter and on the telephone; assist customers with general court business accept filings and answer questions;
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Work Hours

Fulltime court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a onehour lunch break. This position may fill in as a backup weekend InCourt Clerk.

The Dimond Courthouse is located on 4th Street near the Historic District in Juneau. As a Courtroom Judicial Assistant you will become part of the Juneau Trial Court helping to fulfill the mission of the Alaska Court System.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute (net).

Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a monthformonth basis.

Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.

Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary paralegal or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a monthformonth basis.

HISTORY

EDUCATION

SELECTION PROCEDURE
