We are looking for candidates who have a passion for helping atrisk youth.
We areWorking Together to Strengthen North Carolinas Youth and Families!

This position is located at Rockingham Youth Development Center a secure facility in Reidsville NC (Rockingham County) with an overall mission to provide committed juveniles with a safe secure environment that fosters healthy decisionmaking and personal responsibility.


The primary purpose of these positions is to provide mental health services for juveniles assigned to a Youth Development Center and/or Juvenile Detention Center. These services include but are not limited to mental status examinations diagnostic evaluations and behavioral assessments behavioral programming individual and group psychotherapy crisis intervention and direct counseling services at an advanced level. Will provide training as needed.

The positions will be responsible for the following:

New Admission Screening and Evaluation

Perform an evidencebased mental health screening for assigned new admissions. Document completion of the screening in NCJOIN. Complete a clinical interview and mental status exam. Complete a mental health evaluation report. Document results in the Mental Health Practice Management System.

Mental Health Treatment

Complete a mental health treatment plan for each assigned new admission. Provide psychotherapeutic treatment as indicated. Document the plan within 30 days of admission and treatment progress of each intervention session in the Mental Health Practice Management System. Crisis assessment and intervention.

Criminogenic Needs Identification and Targeting

Identify prominent dynamic factors that affect the youths risk for recidivism within 30 days of admission. Provide individual and group treatment targeting criminogenic needs to assigned youth. Assess for measurable improvement upon review of criminogenic needs.

Training/Continuing Education

Provide training to staff as needed.

Attend continuing education seminars/workshops commensurate with scope and requirements of professional practice. Complete required trainings in the DPS Learning Management System.


*Valid North Carolina drivers license is required for this position.*

*Must successfully complete Criminal Justice Certification requirements.*


Work Schedule:
This is a fulltime position. Work hours for this position are MondayFriday 8am5pm.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Masters degree in psychology clinical social work marriage and family therapy clinical counseling or human services related field from an appropriately accredited educational institution.

Necessary Special Qualification Requirements:
Must hold an independent license to practice as a mental health clinical practitioner in North Carolina.

Mustbe licensed in one of the following:
  • Health Services Provider Psychologist (HSPP)
  • Licensed Psychologist (LP)
  • Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associates (LCSWA)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associates (LMFTA)
  • Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC)
  • Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associates (LCMHCA)
  • Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS) must also have one other listed license
    **As a result of changes through the licensing board Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC/LPCA) are now referred to as Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors (LCMHC/LCMHCA).

Necessary Special Qualifications pertaining to Criminal Justice Standards:
Selected applicant must attend and successfully complete and pass the Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training certification program. The certification requires four weeks to complete and is comprised of classroom and physically demanding training. This training is carried out at regional training centers and requires consecutive overnight stays. In addition the selected candidate must:

Have or be able to obtain required documentation for certification as a Juvenile Justice Officer (i.e. a diploma).
Pass a Criminal Background check
Pass a Drug Screening test
Pass a Psychological test
Pass a Sexual Risk Screening test
Pass a Physical
Be a US citizen
Be at least 20 years of age
Have a valid drivers license
