Job Description
The Department of History at Virginia Tech seeks an Instructor in Modern Military History. This position is a restricted ninemonth appointment beginning August 2025 with the potential of reappointment based on university need and available funding. Rank within the Instructor series will be determined by the candidates experience. Candidates must have independent teaching experience a record of success in the classroom and experience teaching Modern Military History. The Instructor will contribute to the War and Society minor and will be expected to regularly teach a course in Modern Military History. We especially invite candidates who can also offer courses on World War I World War II the Cold War and other lower or upperdivision courses to be determined by the Instructors interests in conjunction with the Director of Undergraduate Studies. A Ph.D. in history or allied field is required at the time of appointment.
Teaching load: 4 courses per semester. The Instructor will be expected to deliver courses in both inperson and online modalities.
Salary: Commensurate with experience minimum $50000
