The Opportunity

The Legal Counsel supporting Operations will provide sophisticated pragmatic proactive legal advice to clients within Roche Diagnostics Operations on all aspects of facilities manufacturing and operations with a heavy emphasis on drafting and negotiating both direct and indirect procurement contracts including services agreements supply and logistics agreements real estate agreements and construction agreements. Additionally responsible for advising the operations and facilities team on safety health and environmental (SHE) legal issues. This position will support and report to the Head of Employment and Labor Law and will be a primary attorney interfacing with the Roche Diagnostics Operations business as well as related Roche manufacturing and logistics activities. This role will create sophisticated and efficient process improvement initiatives for the Procurement and the Safety Health and Environmental (SHE) functions will develop and conduct training and will coordinate compliance activities for daytoday work and to facilitate proactive counseling of the Operations business. Contributes to Law Department policy development based on crossfunctional expertise collaboration with business and legal stakeholders and exposure to multiple aspects of Roche business.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional with wideranging experience in the relevant areas (Procurement Real Estate Construction Environmental Litigation) business acumen professionalism and sound judgment. Deals with diverse and oftentimes complex and sensitive issues where analysis may require discretion collaboration and indepth evaluation of many factors. Exercises judgment in evaluating methods and may determine criteria for obtaining solutions. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in area of expertise as well as some key contacts outside area of expertise. Responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the quality system and achieving quality objectives through daily actions.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide counseling on commercial and business law issues as well as providing services to all functional groups within Roche Diagnostics Operations and related/affiliated business units including without limitation business unit management Manufacturing Facilities Logistics Procurement Security IT HR and Safety Health and Environmental (SHE). Develop an indepth working knowledge of the business models priorities and risks and apply this knowledge in delivering legal advice.

  • Embody the Roche values such as integrity courage and passion and do what it takes to ensure that Roche is and continues to be a great place to work.

  • Review and keep management informed of legal developments.

  • Work as a liaison between clients and subject matter expert attorneys to ensure effective mitigation of risk in specialized areas of law.

  • Negotiate draft and review direct and indirect procurement agreements and other legal documents required by the business unit.

  • Collaborate with global business areas group functions and affiliate attorneys as necessary to assist clients in achieving business goals.

Who You Are

  • Doctor of Jurisprudence from an ABAaccredited law school.

  • Must be actively licensed to practice law in one or more of the 50 states. If not licensed in Indiana must become licensed to practice law in Indiana within 6 months of commencement of employment with Roche. Must maintain an active Indiana law license in good standing in order to retain employment. Must remain in compliance with all applicable Continuing Legal Education requirements.

  • At least five years combined experience practicing law inhouse within a corporate law department and/or at a large to mediumsized law firm; practice experience must include business transactions procurement contracting and real estate law.

  • Willingness and ability to deliver a consistent message in the face of pressure or adversity.

  • A demonstrated ability to collaborate and work as a member of a team and to establish and maintain trusting work relationships serving as a strategic business advisor/partner.

  • Excellent drafting skills with keen attention to detail.

  • Strong organizational and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to multitask and multideadline a large variety of projects effectively on time and in a costefficient manner.

  • Excellent verbal/written English language communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with executives and all levels with the organization.

  • Litigation experience preferred

This position is based in Indianapolis IN and has an in office requirement.

Relocation benefits are not available for this posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Indiana is$138000 to $256400. Actual pay will be determined based on experience qualifications geographic location and other jobrelated factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
