Job Description

Job Title:3rd Grade Teacher

Exemption Status/ Test:Exempt/ Professional

Reports to:Principal

Department/ School:Assigned Campus

Minimum Salary:$50800 see teacher pay scale

AnnualWork Calendar Days:187 Days

Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society

Bachelors degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)

Demonstrate compentency in the core academic subject area assigned

Knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Experience:

One year student teaching or approved internship

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

  1. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  2. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials equipment and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations.
  3. Conduct assessment of student learning styles.
  4. Present subject matter effectively and according to guidelines established by IEP.
  5. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media including technology to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned
  6. Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed and assist special education students in regular classes with assignments.
  7. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to district requirements
  8. Participate in selection of books equipment and other instructional media.

Student Growth and Development

  1. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  2. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by campus principal.
  3. Consult district and outside resource people regarding education social medical and personal needs of students.

Classroom Management and Organization

  1. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students.
  2. Manage student behavior and administer disciplineaccording to students code of conduct and student handbook
  3. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
  4. Plan and assign the work of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.

Other

  1. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents students principals and teachers.
  2. Maintain professional relationships with parents students and colleagues.
  3. Participate in staff development activities to improve jobrelated skills.
  4. Keep informed of and comply with federal state district and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
  5. Compile maintain and file all physical and computerized reports records and other documents required.
  6. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  7. All other duties as assigned.

The position requires occasional walking standing sitting bending stooping kneeling crouching crawling and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds such as books papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress.
