Job Description
Mudflap serves the $800B trucking industry the backbone of the U.S. economy. Our marketleading payment products help truckers save thousands of dollars on fuel (their #1 business expense) while providing our fuel stop partners with access to new hardtoreach customers. As the Director Data Insights & Engineering you will sit inside our core technology organization but serve crossfunctional stakeholders across the business including the executive team.
We are looking for a person who leads with humility curiosity and purpose. Someone with clarity of thought an ability to integrate and analyze a great deal of information the inspiration to spark new ideas and the organizational skills to oversee multiple complex and concurrent projects.
The ideal candidate will have 10 years of experience in data at startups with meaningful scale. This is a managerial role but also requires deep technical expertise in the data engineering/science/analytics realm.
This role is based in Palo Alto CA and involves a hybrid work approach balancing inoffice collaboration with the ability to work remotely.
Expectations (In this role you will):
- Lead the applied data science engineering & analytics function at Mudflap supporting key decisions across product development marketing risk and finance
- Hire and mentor worldclass talent primarily data analysts engineers and scientists
- Drive process improvements to improve both the quality and quantity of insights we are able to deliver
- Drive best practices around experiment design and implementation around the company to enable rapid testing and learning
- Work closely with product engineering leadership to evolve our data pipelines warehouse and related systems to facilitate accurate and efficient delivery of insights
- Act as a thought partner for datasavvy individuals located outside of the core data team
- Exhibit enthusiasm about sharing and adopting best practices with your team
- Be flexibleyou understand the needs of a startup
- Be detailoriented a fast learner and scrappy
Experience (What we look for):
- Handson experience with complex relational datasets; youve encountered databases with hundreds of tables and limited documentation and arent intimidated. Between experimenting yourself and striking up conversation with others across the company youve never met a Postgres (or Snowflake) instance you didnt like
- Demonstrated experience managing crossfunctional stakeholders; youre able to prioritize competing requests effectively by leveraging a strong fundamental understanding of the business environment youre operating in
- Knowledge and enthusiasm for emerging trends in the data analytics space; you try new tools and are comfortable evaluating open source platforms vendor pitches etc
- Demonstrated managerial acumen; youve built a team before are comfortable hiring and developing folks with a wide variety of experience profiles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; youre comfortable making a presentation to the leadership team as well as documenting processes for your teammates

The salary range for this role is $225000 $275000. This information reflects a base salary range for this position based on current market data which may be subject to change as new market data becomes available. The candidates skills experience and other relevant factors will determine the exact compensation. This position may also be eligible for additional incentives such as equity awards or shortterm incentives. Our benefits include medical/dental/vision insurance 401(k) with company match and PTO.
