Job Description

JFS Ottawa is a multiservice nonprofit community agency helping individuals and families across generations and cultures to achieve stability independence and belonging. Core service areas include mental health and wellbeing social supports and services for seniors newcomers and diverse communities.

We are seeking a motivated and organized Summer Student who will assist the Thelma Steinman Seniors Support Services Unit (TSU) in researching and developing materials pertinent to the resources available to seniors throughout the OttawaCarleton region.


As this job is part of the Canada Summer Jobs program participants must meet the following requirements:

  • Age: Between 15 and 30 years old at the start of the employment period.
  • Citizenship/Residence: Canadian citizen permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • Legal Right to Work: Must have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Canada


Research including but not limited to:

  • Catchment areabased community support services (CSS) Primary Care Outreach and services provided.
  • Engagement programs (ie. social recreational activities).
  • Services provided through Essential Health and Social Supports (EHSS) provincial and federal programs for seniors.
  • Criteria for accessing the aforementioned services.
  • Resources for mental health and neurogenerative disorders experienced by seniors.
  • Collating findings.
  • Creating with supervisor strategies for dissemination of findings for JFS staff working with seniors clients and their families.


Qualifications and Requirements

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel Word and PowerPoint.

Solid written and verbal communication skills

Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise.

Excellent organizational skills

Multitasking and timemanagement skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
