Job Description

THE POSITION

The Department of Labor & Industry is actively looking to hire a Legal Assistant 2 to join the Unemployment Compensation Board of Review (UCBR) Referee office. In this role the selected candidate will play a crucial part in assisting the Referee staff with the processing of unemployment compensation appeals that present a range of complex legal challenges. These appeals arise from decisions made by the Unemployment Compensation Service Centers (UCSC) and include cases that have been remanded by the UCBR for further review. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position you will be responsible for managing the schedule for referee hearings ensuring that all appointments are organized efficiently. You will also prepare hearing notices to inform relevant parties of upcoming sessions. Effective communication both verbal and written is essential as you will need to convey information clearly to clients and colleagues alike. Additionally you will transcribe decisions from digital recordings ensuring accuracy in the documentation of outcomes. Your role will involve drafting decisions based on typed notes followed by thorough proofreading to verify the integrity of documents and data. You will be tasked with inputting data and maintaining both electronic and paper files ensuring that all records are uptodate and easily accessible. Greeting clients and addressing their inquiries through various communication channels will also be part of your responsibilities. Proficiency in navigating PC applications and systems is crucial as you will need to interpret various documents and records to support your work effectively.
