Job Summary:
Caterpillars Advanced Materials Technology Department is currently seeking an experienced Senior Engineer focused on metallurgical product development production support and capital project management. In this role you will have an opportunity to support operations lead capital projects and analyze a wide variety of components providing design support and development on a diverse customer portfolio supporting products produced at the Decatur manufacturing facility.
What You Will Do:
Lead material analysis investigations
Develop metallurgical testing plans and analyze test results
Create technical reports and/or procedures
Support Heat Treat Manufacturing Operations
Lead manage and support capital projects
Effectively communicate results to our internal customers
Provide technical support to metallurgical laboratory operations personnel.
Support Met Lab process controls and compliance for certifications and audits.
Education Requirement:
Bachelors degree in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering from an accredited college or university

Project Management:
Provides input for Gantt or PERT charts or their equivalent to track project progress and status.

Assists in detailed project plans including cost schedule and resource requirements.
Obtains information from stakeholders during the planning stage of a project.
Produces standard project status reports.
Manufacturing Standards Procedures and Policies:
Discusses the relevance of standards for a manufacturing environment.
Researches process and product blueprints for own area.
Describes and follows all policies standards and procedures.
Obtains documentation and information on standards and their usage.
Product Testing:
Coordinates execution of test plans including resources strategy schedules processes and tools.
Collaborates with design team to ensure testing considerations are incorporated into system design.
Recommends tools and techniques for automating simplifying and enhancing product testing.
Compares and contrasts alternative testing methodologies and tools.
Matches testing methodology and tools to product being tested; develops test scenarios and scripts.
Estimates time effort and resources required for thorough testing.
Troubleshooting Technical Problems:
Documents common hardware software and communications problems and likely resolutions.
Troubleshoots typical technical problems in a specific area.
Works with vendorspecific diagnostic guides tools and utilities to discover application problems.
Adheres to standard troubleshooting procedures to ensure effectiveness of resolutions.
Participates in setting evaluation standards and criterion for troubleshooting.
Top Candidates will also have
6 years of relevant work experience
Advanced Materials or Metallurgical Engineering Degree
Prior Failure Analysis Experience with Ferrous and NonFerrous materials
Production heat treat support experience
Excellent communication interpersonal and collaboration skills.
Experience with component design and/or supporting manufacturing operations
Experience with Heat Treatment Processes
Experience in creating technical reports publications and/or procedures.
Strong Analytical Skills
Selfstarter accountable and customer driven with strong teamwork and organizational skills.
Ability to work multiple projects concurrently

The location for this position is Decatur IL.
