The Role
As the Superintendent Parkland Planning Services you will play a key leadership role in the planning development and delivery of programs that support the ecological management and longterm sustainability of the City of Sarnias public lands.
Reporting to the Manager Recreation & Parkland Planning Services you will be responsible for a broad range of publicfacing services including longrange planning program design and ontheground execution that will manage efforts to naturalize areas of parkland across the more than 1000 acres of lands here in Sarnia and increase the opportunity for greater biodiversity within the community.
The Superintendent is also responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Forestry and Horticulture teams ensuring highquality service delivery and effective team performance. This role will also lead the development and implementation of programs focused on ecological sustainability green space enhancement and naturalization.
Collaboration is critical to success in this role. The Superintendent will work closely with other municipal departments community groups agencies boards and the public to ensure parkland infrastructure is safe accessible and environmentally sustainable while optimizing the use of City resources.
The Candidate
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Environmental Management Environmental Conservation Urban Planning or a related field
- Three years related work experience
- Note: (an equivalent combination of education training and experience may be considered);
- Valid drivers license with acceptable abstract;
Were seeking a candidate who can deliver:
- Thorough knowledge of public land management including daily operational oversight and application of environmental protection standards and best practices;
- Strategic leadership and demonstrated experience in supervising managing and supporting frontline teams in a unionized environment with a focus on daytoday operations staff development scheduling and resource coordination;
- Budget administration & policy development;
- Collaboration and fostering strong relationships with external client groups (i.e boards committees community groups government agencies and the general public)
- Policy compliance and a working knowledge of applicable legislative requirements and municipal regulations;
- Knowledge of corporate grants government grants festivals and special events an asset;
- Ontario Pesticide Training & Certifications an asset;
- CPR and first aid certification an asset.
