Position Summary

The Driver is responsible for transporting residents staff and essential supplies to and from various locations providing a crucial link in the daily operations of the shelter

Some of the duties include:

• Transport shelter residents to scheduled appointments medical visits and other essential destinations
• Transport residents and their belongings when they move out
• Transport meals to overflow sites
• Transport staff volunteers and board members during various community engagement events
• Coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor to ensure the vehicles are in good working condition; report any issues promptly and schedule regular maintenance as needed
• Maintain a respectful and supportive demeanor when dealing with shelter clients offering assistance as necessary and providing information about schedules and procedures
• Coordinate transportation schedules to accommodate shelter needs and ensure punctuality for appointments
• Maintain accurate records of all trips including destinations times and any relevant notes
• Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations to ensure the safety of clients and other road users
• Communicate effectively with all interested parties to ensure a smooth and coordinated transportation process
• Be prepared to respond to emergency situations such as accidents or vehicle breakdowns and follow established protocols
• Actively participates in quality improvement activities of the program/agency
• Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct in terms of privacy of client information and adherence to confidentiality policies & upholds the service philosophy
• Perform other duties as assigned that support the mission of the agency

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent; some experience working with the homeless chemically dependent or mentally disabled individuals; and effective communication and crisis intervention skills. A valid Ohio drivers license proof of insurance with less than 4 points on driving record is required.
