Job Description

Introduction

BBC News Ukraine is one of the BBC World Service Language Services reaching wide audiences both in Ukraine and globally. Its impactful multimedia content is shared via a number of digital platforms including website and social media. The team is currently based in three locations in Ukraine Poland and the UK.

The Senior Journalist/Video Lead will work alongside BBC Ukrainian desks acting as a point of video & editorial reference for journalists and providing editorial leadership.

Main responsibilities

As leader of the video planning process you will:

  • Allocate work and lead the team on a day to day basis but also contribute ideas and support to the overall management of the site flagging any editorial issues with the Editor and Senior Journalists.
  • Offer ideas for daily output and future diary events suggest new angles on existing stories and to put forward stories not yet covered.
  • Understand the BBC Ukrainian strategy and to suggest ideas appropriate to its distinctive style and content.
  • Commission and select relevant materials ensuring they meet expectations of our audiences and adhere to the BBCs editorial.
  • Act as a facilitator of change clearly communicating and sharing best practices are shared between teams.
  • Present the content on radio TV or on line. This might be live or recorded.
  • Seek ways to increase diversity in our workforce and to ensure that our output reflects the audiences we serve.
  • Deliver to tight deadlines while maintaining the highest editorial standards.
  • Be available for shift work duty trips as requested. This can include nights weekends and public holidays. Occasional travel for training may be required.
  • Ensure that BBC Editorial guidelines and all relevant legal contractual and copyright requirements are met referring upwards in cases of difficulty or doubt.
  • All journalists may be required to work with or move to other teams on a multi media basis and to have the ability to work across a range of skills and in a flexible manner and to carry out these responsibilities in accordance with the BBCs overall standards and values.

Are you the right candidate

To be successful in this role you must demonstrate fluency in written and spoken Ukrainian/English and the ability to communicate in Ukrainian/English effectively including the ability to edit and oversee videos and adapt with accuracy clarity and style appropriate to differing audiences and forms of media.

Experience working as a Journalist using video and leading a team.

Be able to edit quickly under pressure (video audio texts etc.) and to subedit or rework other peoples content.
