Job Description:
Professional with strong knowledge of job area and broad knowledge of mechanical engineering practices. Communicates within and outside of own function to gain cooperation on operational processes practices and procedures. Works on complex designs and processes with minimal oversight. Makes improvements to systems and processes. Contributes to achievement of departmental & interdepartmental goals and operating plans with direct impact on the departmental & interdepartmental results.
Essential Functions:
- Provide technical support and bidding input during proposal efforts.
- Provide technical status forecast technical needs and implement changes as necessary to meet program objectives.
- Provide technical support for the procurement fabrication and assembly of hardware and systems.
- Provide Engineering documentation as required by the contract using standard Microsoft Office software (Word Excel Power Point).
- Provide leadership and direction to more junior engineers.
- Provide technical support for maintenance of technical tools laboratories and test equipment as required on assigned programs.
- Provide system test and evaluation support including input to test plans and procedures.
- Provide leadership and direction to peer disciplines operations manufacturing and procurement.
- Provide manufacturing floor realtime feedback and oversight.
- Support Operations for build test evaluation of qualification deliverable hardware.
- Promote cordial relationships and foster and maintain a favorable business profile with customers suppliers coworkers industry and professional associations government agencies and the local community.
- Develop conceptual preliminary and detailed designs.
- Develop and document detailed designs using SolidWorks.
- Evaluation and development of system requirements.
- Design and development of hardware that meets system cost and schedule requirements.
- Generation of solid models in Solid Works for concept evaluation and deliverable hardware.
- Working knowledge of geometric tolerancing and standard drafting techniques per ASME Y14.5.
- Conduct detail analyses (stress thermal etc.) on proposed hardware.
- Develop plans and procedures to test components and systems during qualification and acceptance phases of a program.
- Ensure that assigned project tasks meet allocated contract cost and schedule requirements. Identify problems and recommend work around plans and alternatives.
- Support check and balance procedures to monitor review and evaluate design activities performed on programs. to assure conformance with customer requirements company standards and sound engineering practices.
- Prepare design review material in support of PDR CDR SRR and technical audits for assigned programs.
- Ensure that engineering drawings and documents are complete and are properly logged into the companys data depository.
- Perform system studies and tradeoff analyses in support of assigned projects and new business opportunities.
- Support development of detailed cost estimates for specified technical activities and subcontracts.
- Develop issue and implement internal technical and engineering practices and procedures. Decisions may involve establishment of precedents.
- Perform prod. and manufacturing analyses and ensure that the design meets the specifications and standards defined by the program.
- Perform DFMA (Design for Manufacturability) analyses.
- Travel up to 25%.
Qualifications:
- A bachelors degree in mechanical or Structural or Materials or Industrial or Ocean or Aeronautical Engineering or a related scientific discipline is required and a minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience.
- Or Graduate Degree or equivalent with 2 years of prior related experience.
- Or In lieu of a degree a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- 4 years of experience is in design and development in related experience.
- 4 years experience with Solidworks
Preferred Qualifications:
- Underwater hardware experience
In compliance with pay transparency requirements the salary range for this role in Maryland is $87000 $161000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
