GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Business Underwriter I is responsible for the underwriting of business purpose loans. This role analyzes credit data to estimate degree of risk involved for loans to business entities or individuals. The Business Underwriter I is responsible for providing timely decisions for credit requests to which they are assigned from the workflow queue.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepare financial statement spreads using the Banks financial statement analysis software. This duty is performed daily about 20% of the time.
2. Prepare standardized spreadsheets designed to quantify borrowers personal global and real estate debt service abilities. This duty is performed daily about 30% of the time.
3. Confirm that source documents in the credit package meet Bank guidelines and loan policy. This duty is performed daily about 10% of the time.
4. Calculate and assess financial ratios and determine pricing and fees that align with Bank guidelines and loan policy. This duty is performed daily about 10% of the time.
5. Accurately recognize exceptions to underwriting guidelines pricing fees and loan policy. This duty is performed daily about 10% of the time.
6. Review appraisals to ascertain that the subject property for the loan is acceptable security for the loan request. This duty is performed as needed about 10% of the time.
7. Focus on continual improvement of skills related to the understanding of the analysis and approval of commercial loans. This duty is performed daily.
8. Completes required BSA/AML training and other compliance training as assigned. This duty is performed quarterly about 10% of the time.
9. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner. This duty is performed daily.
10. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Broad knowledge of such fields as accounting marketing business administration finance etc. Equivalent to a four year college degree plus 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training and 1 to 6 months related management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence. ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in persontoperson and small group situations with customers clients general public and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions percentages area circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions ratios and proportions to practical situations.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of known variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral or diagram formats.
