TITLE: IEP TEAM CHAIRPERSON
REPORTS TO: Directorof Special Education
JOB GOAL: Act as the Administrator of Educations Designee as the facilitator and chair for IEP Teams and for
supervising and evaluating special education services in the Peabody Public Schools
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Arrange organize and conduct all IEP (Individual Education Program) Team Processes to determine initial eligibility for special education in collaboration with the student parents special and general staff and other appropriate parties.
- Arrange organize and conduct all IEP (Individual Education Program) Team processes to redetermine continued eligibility for special education in collaboration with the student parents special and general education staff and other appropriate parties.
- Facilitate other IEP (Individual Education Program) Team meetings for students currently in special education at the discretion of the Administrator of Special Education.
- Develops the initial IEP for any student determined eligible for special education.
- Conducts and chairs all Manifestation Team meetings for students currently in Special Education who have been suspended from school for more than ten (10) days.
- Serves as the consultant to the districts professional staff on matters pertaining to the education of children with disabilities.
- Conducts evaluation of Special Education Teachers and Related Service Providers as assigned by the Administrator of Special Education in consultation with building principals
- Conducts evaluations of paraprofessionals as assigned by the Administrator of Special Education in consultation with building principals
- Assists the Administrator of Special Education in evaluating Special Education programs
- Assists the Administrator of Special Education in evaluating student performance including the collection and analysis of student and school data
- Assists the Administrator of Special Education in completing federal and state surveys and reports involving Special Education students and programs
- Attends all staff meetings and individual meetings with Administrator of Special Education to ensure that all Special Education students are receiving a free and appropriate education (FAPE)
- Keeps current with all state and federal legal requirements governing special education
- Participates in case conferences concerning individual students as needed.
- Keeps current with new developments in the field by reading journals and publications; attending professional society meetings and seminars; and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
- Acts as liaison with community mental health clinics special schools and other resources offering therapeutic services when appropriate.
- Participates in the planning and implementation of special education staff development.
- Assumes other duties as requested by the Administrator of Special Education.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters degree in Education or related content.
- Massachusetts Licensure in Special Education and/or related field. Administrative license required.
- Five years experience in one or more areas of special education
- Demonstrates knowledge of current special education laws inclusionary practices and managerial skills.
- Extensive knowledge of the IEP process
- Interpersonal skills necessary to work productively with stakeholders
- Computer and data management /analysis skills
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Per Agreement
