Job Description

Title: Summer First Nations Mtis and Inuit Integrated Arts Teacher

Start Date: July 2 2025

End Date: July 29 2025

Position Type: Temporary

Posting Overview:

This is an internal/external posting open to Indigenous preference will be given to qualified L.K.D.S.B. permanent Secondary teachers.

Reporting to the System Coordinator of Alternative and Continuing Education the Summer First Nations Mtis and Inuit Integrated Arts Teacher will provide an First Nations Mtis and Inuit Integrated Arts (NAC1O) program employing a landbased education approach. The program will also include activities that support the transition of students from grade eight to nine. The program will take place in the First Nations community (site to be determined) as well as at the local LKDSB secondary school. Adult learners who are close relatives of enrolled students may also register for the program upon the approval of the System program is conditional on sufficient enrollment.

The hiring for this position will be completed equitably in accordance with the Special Programs provisions of the Ontario Human Rights Code. Qualifications/Experience:
  • Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualification required;
  • Knowledge of and experience teaching various arts disciplines that explore or reflect First Nations Mtis and Inuit perspectives culture and traditions preferred;
  • Knowledge of and experience teaching landbased educational approaches preferred;
  • Knowledge of Kettle and Stony PointBkejwanong or Aamjiwnaang and their geographical features an asset;
  • Experience working with Indigenous students an asset.

Only those who selfidentify as Indigenous will be considered.

Position Effective Date & Length Duration & Schedule:

Three positions available.
9:00 a.m. 2:30 p.m. 110 hours total
Rate: $58.58 per hour
